UMIT Mumbai has a Dedicated Training & Placement Cell

My overall experience at Usha Mittal Institute of Technology, Mumbai has been fairly decent so far. I got admission here through MHT-CET score and chose this Institute because it was a practical option according to my percentile. Just so you know, this is not a part of Mumbai University. Since this Institute is only for women, the place feels safe and well-run. Parents feel good about sending their daughters here. However, the Institute is extremely strict about attendance, internal tests and deadlines, which sometimes create academic pressure even if students are scoring well academically. The Institute is still developing, so some facilities are a bit basic. On the brighter side, the management arranges seminars, awareness sessions and women empowerment activities. All things considered, it is a good Institute for girls who are serious about studying and want a safe space to learn. But there's still considerable scope for improvement.

I took up Computer Engineering because of my interest in Coding and Technology. Admission was based on MHT-CET followed by basic document verification. We have exams every semester along with internal assessments and viva, so the Institute keeps a pretty close eye on how we are doing. The teaching is quite fast in almost every subject. Labs for major subjects are there. They also offer Minor degree of 6 semesters along with Major degree with eligibility criteria of 7 CGPA with no active backlog. The syllabus is decent with subjects like Personality development, Technical communication, Microprocessors & Microcontrollers, Computer Architecture and Organization. They recently started subjects including Cyber Security and Drone Technology. Our Institute follows NEP, so our curriculum is advanced. For example, what seniors study in Semester 6, we are already learning in Semester 5. This is very much helpful for us since Placement drive starts from Semester 5. I feel the academics provide the base, but our personal efforts is what will make us stand out.

The fee structure here is standardized according to government norms for CET-based admissions. The fee mainly includes tuition fee, exam charges and basic academic facilities. I pay the full fee, but students from economically weaker sections can apply for Government scholarships and women-oriented financial aid programs recommended by the Institute.

The faculty members have the required qualifications; their teaching style is more theoretical and focused mostly on covering the syllabus, which I think should be improved. With nearly 70 students in each class and one teacher per subject, individual doubt-clearing becomes difficult. Teachers are approachable sometimes, but mostly occupied because of tight schedules. Since this is a Women's university, teachers do encourage students to be confident and participate in academic discussions, but practical exposure needs to be improved. Overall, the faculty is helpful to some extent.

The Training and Placement Cell of Usha Mittal Institute of Technology, Mumbai is in a growing phase. By fifth semester, Internship drives begin. However, this year only a few companies visited for Internships. The Institute does conduct sessions and encourages participation in women-centric career programs as well as Entrepreneurship programs. Right now, the number of offers and package levels are better than what I expected. while it is not the highest level like top-tier institutes, the opportunities here are definitely at par with good Engineering Institutes in Mumbai. Several reputed companies visit the campus, providing us a better chance of entering a decent company. The Institute also has its own Incubation centre with decent number of on-going as well as successfully completed Projects.

The hostel is located right beside the Institute with a good building, mess facility and basic amenities. Only those living more than 70 km away are eligible for accommodation. Hostel is well equipped with CCTV, Wi-Fi, and security staff. Hostel rules are strict, especially with timings, but since it is a women's hostel, this is acceptable to maintain safety.

Infrastructure is still developing but the Institute has made noticeable improvements recently. Most classrooms now have projectors. The campus building is being repainted from inside and outside. Labs have working PCs, with great Wi-Fi range which is limited to lab room and the Software is updated regularly. The canteen is outside the building and is shared with other Institutes from the same University, which often makes it crowded at peak time. Security arrangements are not that strong, but improvements are in progress like CCTV in rooms, and more security staff. Overall, infrastructure is on the right track but still incomplete so further batches will likely get much better facilities.

Campus life in UMIT Mumbai is simple and mostly academic-focused. The crowd is friendly since it’s an all-women's campus, and students feel safe and comfortable around each other. There are many extracurricular activities such as sports week, tech week, online Hackathons, awareness programs organized by various Councils. The management is very strict about permissions for large-scale programs. Overall, the experience is peaceful, with scope for more fun and engagement. Personally, I enjoy spending time with my classmates and small moments in campus make the life-time memories better.
