SRM University Kattankulathur B.Tech Review By Nikhil Bhandari

SRM University is a brand. The college offers a great campus. The campus is very huge and attracts many students from India and outside of India. Located in Kattankulathur, Chennai, the SRM Institute of Science and Technology is even recognized globally. It is accredited by many International Universities. SRM Institute of Science and Technology always ranks among the top 10 private engineering colleges of India.

The admission process includes an entrance examination or IIT JEE rank which had to be cleared. Only those students are admitted who cleared either of the entrance examinations. This University is also tied up with many eminent companies as well as foreign Universities. Many students are placed in top companies as well as in MNCs. The college management is something worth mentioning. The management was so meticulous in it's work. Everything was managed so properly that I never had any problem or complaint against the management system. There were separate departments for every field. We had many online portals for fee regarding issues, parents' corner, hostel and what not. It was a wholesome pack. The campus was so huge that to take a complete round of it, it would take 2-3 hours depending upon the speed. It is very high tech and well maintained.

I joined B. Tech in Software engineering. The eligibility to take admission in this college or stream is to have science maths in 12th standard and scoring good marks or grades. There was an entrance examination SRM JEE for taking admission into SRM Kattankulathur. This exam was a bit tough but worth taking. The syllabus, campus, faculties everything was so amazing and wonderful. Among the many subjects, we had English, maths, Physics, Chemistry, digital computer fundamentals, software project management, software architect and design, software testing and many more. We even had biology for engineers and environmental science. For illuminating our personalities, we had personality development classes too.

There were numerous practical subjects too with workshops. We also had an extra language subject like German, Japanese and French. We were allowed to learn any one language among these. There were also operating systems and microprocessors as the subjects. I joined this course because I loved technology and this branch of the college had fulfilled all my expectations from this University. This course had definitely allowed me to earn good money. I have been able to start my own venture because of this course and college.

Faculties at SRM are incredibly genius and not even comparable. They are so well educated and maestros in their subjects. There were individual faculty for each subject. They had masters and PhD in their relevant field. They were very particular about their teachings and their experience was so great. Since there are so many branches, there were a huge number of faculties present. They taught me so well. Even now I can remember what they taught and how they taught. The theory and practical classes were so well taught. There were also slide presentations and many more. What SRM shows, it provides you even better.

Whatever I'm today is because of my teachers who taught me so well that I'm able to face all the situations of my life very easily. Even there were so many workshops held from time to time, both local and international. I'm really happy to be a part of this family.

The placement cell of SRM is highly elaborated. The college invites many eminent companies for recruitment. Students were selected in the companies after fulfilling their criteria. At my time many companies came like Accenture, HP, Cognizant, TCS, Wipro, Capgemini and many other renowned companies.

The candidates were called for interview rounds and then placed in major companies. College cooperation was next level. We got everything including training for our selection to the job. The college trained us very keenly everytime.

SRM University provides hostel and mess facilities for both boys and girls separately. At my time, the hostel charges were 70,000-85000 INR per annum depending upon the types of room. There was also a separate AC hostel facility for NRI students which cost Rs. 1.5 lacs per annum.

The food was South Indian. The hostel facilities were great. There were plenty of rooms for the students so not getting a room in the hostel was out of the question.

The infrastructure is great of SRM IST. The whole campus was like a mini city. There were 3-4 volleyball courts, basketball courts, football playing field, tennis courts, jogging track and what not. The campus was very beautiful. There was also an indoor games playing room. We had access to almost all the games. We also had many cafeterias and canteens within the premises for the students. The food was scrumptious there. We used to hangout there a lot with our friends. The library too was a big one with all the books. It created a beautiful and a peaceful aura for studying there.

There were big workshops for practicing our practical subjects. We also had medical and emergency support in case of anyone getting hurt or ill. There is a medical college affiliated to this University, so there were plenty of medical facilities available then and must be available now as well. The auditorium where all our functions were held was so big that it could accommodate many students at a time.

My campus Life was truly amazing. The time in college, four long years flew away so quickly that I didn't ever realize. To make us free from the boredom, regular recreational activities were organised. There were fresher's parties, farewell parties to say adios to our seniors, technical fest "AARUSH" and cultural fest "MILAN". There were a number of competitions held there, dance, singing, even sports week, skit competition, ramp walk and many more.

For our whole personality development, we had PD classes and debates. We used to enjoy them a lot and had so much fun. All those are in memories now and will stay there. We grew a lot as a person there. I was nothing when I first came there, but now I have so much, I'm an alumni of SRM and feel proud of it.
