IIT Guwahati B.Tech Fees Structure 2026 & Admission Process

I have chosen Chemical Science and Technology branch at this Institute. This branch is relatively less hectic and has less work load as compared to other non-technical branches which will allow me to engage in other activities like coding, learning guitar and going to the gym. To get admission at the Institute, you have to clear Jee Advanced Exam with around 8000 general rank (the cut-off rank differs for different categories). You have to be in the top 20% of students for your respective examination board. Then, you have to visit the Institute and preceed with further formalities like document verification, medical test and more. Mid-semester exams will also be conducted. There are four mid-semester exams in a year.

I am an OBC NCL candidate coming from a background of a family with the total income ranging from Rs. 1,00,000/- to Rs. 5,00,000/-, and due to these factors, I had to pay around Rs. 99,333/- for 1st Semester and for the rest of the semesters I had to pay around Rs. 74,000/-. The department of Mechanical Engineering is the oldest branch of the Institute. It’s also very well-reputed with experienced and passionate faculty. One can be eligible for admission via the JEE entrance exam. Your JEE Advanced rank determines both your Institute and branch. To become eligible for JEE Advanced exam, one should first clear the JEE Main entrance exam. It is one of the most competitive and highly sought exams which would act as your gateway to the most prestigious Engineering Institutes of India. The exam is held annually with the JEE Mains taking place in 2 shifts, January and April and the Advanced exam held at the end of May. One can attempt the Mains exam thrice and the Advanced exams twice. The Institute equips you with needed skillet and arsenal to bag any core interview and work in your dream company. The Institute does offer some seminars on trending and lucrative courses in the current market and industry.

A fee of around Rs. 1,50,000/- is paid every year which covers every Institute amenity, event membership, hostel and mess expenses, tuition and admission charges, etc. Category discounts are available to students of different category (given they are eligible for it). I am pursuing B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering. The reason for me to enroll in this course is that I want to dive deep in the tech world; as you know, day by day new technologies are emerging and this field is getting more and more interesting. Entry requirements are based on the cutoff in JoSAA counseling process, so you can refer to the previous year cutoff to get an expected estimate. Admission process starts right after the JEE Advanced result announcement. Admission is done by JOSAA Rounds. Exams are very frequent in my course. On an average, you have exams in each month of the semester. This year the academic structure is updated considering the industrial changes.

The fee at this Institute is quite affordable and paid on a semester basis. Additionally, you can provide a income certificate if the overall income of your family is less than a particular amount, you will get concession in tuition fee. The fee that I pay is Rs. 1,00,000/- per semester. I got 2/3 tuition fee off from income certificate. There are many extra charges too but roughly it will take around Rs. 1,50,000/- per semester if you are not applying for concession.Read Full Review
