Nirma University B.Tech Review By Parag Thummar

With respect to facilities and campus Nirma is much better than many Universities of Gujarat. However when it comes to teachers Nirma is not that great. I was from IT department and maybe it was a loophole in my department but it was for sure. The teachers were much bothered about Monday uniforms and I-cards but definitely not for the syllabus. The senior professors are doing clerical work as the new ones took over during our batch. I wanted to do PG from here only but couldn’t as I didn’t want to take that chance. Well this is the only worse part about Nirma as rest all positives and more positives. I just hope that my article reach my teachers too so that they will know what ex-students actually think about them. The University is huge and the nice and peaceful environment that the University has made my life heaven. There is one guarantee with Nirma that the future of Nirma’s students is secured as the placements are top-notch.

Since I was regular I never faced any problems but Nirma is like 11 to 6 at the campus and 80% attendance was compulsory. In between 60-80 was accepted but below 60 the students were detained to appear for exams. The classrooms during our time were simple with 2 students in each bench. The college used to breed machines but the time has changed and we were asked about our passion and were trained accordingly. Now imagine that IITians after doing engineering are doing MBA. How is this even relevant as in Nirma University, we were always taught the importance of engineering and therefore even though Nirma has their own MBA college they never advised engineering students to go for it.

They do have ME, PhD or various other degrees but in terms of teaching they were highly under-qualified. They don’t have any practical knowledge and that was clear with their teaching style. I will share something a PhD professor who was also doing research along with teaching. During one class all students asked him about the X project that he worked on and which industries it can help. Trust me had no answers and I am sure it wasn’t his research. I am not calling teachers fake but I doubted their abilities. There were some good professors as well like our Maths Sir as his lectures were worth attending. I have passed out 6 years back and I still remember every single thing he taught.

There is nothing to worry when it comes to placements at Nirma University. The University is known for their placement records and every year 600 new students enroll of engineering and by the time they are finished 400 out of those are get placed easily. Since I was from IT department getting offer from an IT giant was for sure. I though chose doing studies and thereby didn’t even apply for the placement. All the front runners of IT like Wipro, HCL, TCS, and Infosys. International companies like Accenture, HP, and Cognizant were also there. The average pay package for B.Tech students was around Rs. 4-5 lakhs and highest package in our batch was Rs. 18 lakhs. If you don’t mind, it was a record then.

Such a large University and no hostel for UG students. A girl’s hostel for UG girls was in construction and maybe completed by now. There are hostel only for PG students. A total of 2 boys hostels and 1 girls hostel was there in the campus. Never entered and this is why I don’t know how it looked like. Out of 600 students that come and join this college every year, half or more than half are outsiders and still no hostel. That’s all from the hostel part as Nirma don’t have hostel facility for B.Tech students.

The resources that Nirma has probably no-one else does and that is why the infrastructure of Nirma is well-maintained. There are 2 libraries in the campus. One is located at the management building and one in the technology block. There were timings in place like you can use the library only from 9am to 6pm. Inside the library there was a computer lab as all other labs were in different building. Now coming to the rest of the features that the beautiful campus of Nirma has. There’s an herbal garden at the campus and the flowers that you will see there, at least I have not seen elsewhere. There are over 500 trees for sure maybe more but 500 for sure. The medical room with all the first-aid facilities. For sports outdoor grounds and indoor sports complex were inside the campus. Now classes were from 11 to 6 and the time when one uses these facilities was 9 to 6. In strict attendance manner when can one us that. All in all there’s nothing that the college doesn’t have.

Engaging with individuals was easy but not with the professors. Nothing called ragging or even fights were witnessed at the campus. The college is reputed and only the top rankers get admissions here. Over 40 hours in a week was spent with the intelligent people and that itself was abundant to choose Nirma to have a secured future.
