Symbiosis College of Arts and Commerce B.Com Review By Jatin Suryavanshi

Coming from a city like Indore that itself has many institutes I had a lot of expectations. One college that is renowned not just in India but abroad as well is Symbiosis. I took admission there with some approach as the cut-off was little higher than what I scored. At first, I was like the campus is normal and the students also minded their own business. The first few days were perhaps tough and soon I realized that the students coming to college is only going down. Even I decided to have some merry and started bunking the college. Luckily where I stayed I had few people who were in the same college. It was then that I realized that one can make friends only at canteen and then I decided spending time at the NCC canteen and that is where I had the opportunity to bond with my classmates. Time just flew by and I can’t describe in words the kind of fun I had there.

The college holds value because of the courses that comes under Deemed University. The B. Com is under Pune University and therefore there are no rules and that’s the only rule that the college has. You can get away without attending a single lecture. Submissions and practical exams is the only time you will find the entire strength. The classrooms are mostly empty as there are a bunch of 10-20 students whom you will find always. Rather than academics use Symbiosis for other reasons as academic if you are regular then only college stands regular because if you are irregular the college has nothing to do with it.

All the teachers are Dr means are PhD holders. I will be honest with their reviews because I just knew a couple of them and rest all I don’t even remember. I attended some 30 odd lectures in the first year. In the 2nd year half of it and in final year I didn’t attend a single lecture. So it would be unfair talking about them so please excuse me for this part.

There is a placement cell and those 15-20 students I talked about including all the sections they were 100 in all. Those 100 definitely got placements but other than that didn’t even try and even if they would have, I don’t think they would have got it.

More than 50% of the crowd is full of outsiders and still just an NRI hostel. In a way good otherwise my parents too would have sent me in hostel which I don’t think, I would have been able to. From Deep Bungalow Chowk to Bhandarkar there are some 10-12 private hostels and 1000 Paying guests for sure. Still if you want more Pune have a lot of buildings where students are allowed of course with some restrictions that are decided during the time of making agreement and then all forgotten.

I wish I could say state of the art, huge and all the facilities. However, it was exactly the opposite. The campus only had commerce and arts junior college building and law college building that was also about to relocate. Since the main building is the one from where history of this great organization is started the College management has decided to let the commerce and Arts college stay here and rest all that comes under Deemed University has been taken away to different places in Pune. The college building is built on a hill and therefore you have to walk downwards to reach the main building. I am still not sure that at times this campus had 7 institutes running. It can’t accommodate more than 1000 students and only B. Com and junior commerce college have that many students. They have done the best thing by taking the other colleges elsewhere. The main building has a library hall and the building opposite to that has a gymnasium and an auditorium. At the ground floor there’s a canteen that is huge. One more canteen opposite to that is also there but that is mess for NRI hostel students. One canteen is just outside the college and that is NCC canteen. Behind the college there’s a NCC ground and many students from Symbiosis too have joined NCC through college campus.

I used to go college often to have fun at the campus because classes I hardly attended. The campus came to life during the fresher’s party and on days like Valentines days. College campus was turned into a dance floor and trust me coming from an equivalent city Indore this is not possible at any colleges in Indore. The college has some 15-20 societies who are actively talking students to join their societies. Since I was into football I joined the football club and represented the college during all 3 years. Since the college didn’t had its own ground we had to practice at BMCC ground. Just like football there were many sports clubs and other clubs. If you had something in you, Symbi would have helped you give your desires a shot at it. If you are someone who has other interests in life do join Symbiosis as academics is not strict and you will have many opportunities beyond academics.
