Nirma University M.Tech Review By Amar Kashyap

Nirma has a special entrance for M.Tech and they also consider GATE score. For the ones targeting Nirma, just prepare for NIrma’s entrance as it is so easy in comparison to GATE that wasting time in GATE coaching won’t be of any use. Nirma won’t provide you a knowledge based opportunity but they have opportunities in place and irrespective of your forte, you will have an opportunity in your hand before the final semester that you otherwise would have never had it. I am working in Morgan Stanley and designing charts for them which I don’t think would have imagined otherwise but I am happy doing at as the juicy cheque that I get from my company is only because of Nirma University. If you want to have a great morning start then Nirma campus is the one as there are so many departments and spending 20 minutes in the canteen before the lectures start you will have a wholesome idea about various departments of the University as they have them in abundance.

I don’t think a person should just judge the institute on the basis of academics itself as the college has provided a modern infrastructure with smart classrooms that no other college of the state has. The environment at the University was so calms and peaceful and if you have been at Borivali railway station at 6am, the same you will see at the campus at 9am. Students getting geared up for the classes as in M.Tech the classes are compulsory but looking at the crowd I was sure that attendance at Nirma are mandatory. The college has the resources and faculty that are knowledgeable but to get the knowledge transferred is up to an individual.

Faculty can be divided in 2 as some are proficient while some doesn’t have the required teaching skills for teaching PG students. If it’s all about lectures than that is available in internet and even they too solve the doubts. At, Nirma, you are not even allowed to ask doubts as the professors will ignore them and rather scold you for asking such doubts. Some even questioned what we learned at our previous college as these are basic things. If one wants to learn how to demean students or anyone in general the Nirma University professors has done PhD in that.

Placements are top class but there are chances you may end up in an industry where all your knowledge gained during the college will not be of any use. Who cares as the package that students at Nirma gets is probably the highest and the eminence that the prestige and fame that Nirma has will be proven with their track-records when it comes to placement. Mostly all the students got the placement of Rs.10 lakhs and above if I am not over elaborating.

A university as large as Nirma only has 3 hostel buildings in all and that too for the students doing PG in engineering and Management. The students pursuing other courses are not allowed to stay in the campus. I didn’t stay at the hostel and were not even allowed to enter the hostel as the hostel has their own I-card and without that you can’t enter. The hostel building is tall and has 2 lifts in each building. There are 12 rooms on each floor and all the rooms have 2 students staying in that. Staying in hostel can save your time as the University is little far from the main city but Ahmedabad has extended over the years and many buildings where students can easily find a flat are near the University campus.

11/10 for infrastructure. The pure reason for that is the way the management takes care of the University. Every day, you will see some restoration work going on and during my time 2-3 new buildings were also getting constructed. The college has a library of two floors in which the second floor is the reading room. The labs that we used were exquisite but the canteens which were supposed to be exquisite were poor as the food was not great in any of the 3 canteens. The college area is mighty big and to take a complete tour one has to spend a lot of time. The parking area is at all the 3 gates of the University and it was 5 minutes’ walk daily to reach our lecture building. The sports are an integral part of the University and therefore the college has a football and cricket ground. The cricket ground also has a center pitch and 2 practice pitches on both ends of the pavilion. There is an entire block for the entertainment activities and it was crowded always. Not just in terms of area but the way the University has been maintained is a treat to watch.

Nirma University campus has students of all religions, colour, and cast. No ambush or hard on any of those as all are treated equal at the campus. The sports event, cultural event, and tech fests were again a treat to watch as the students who participated in the fests gave their all to make sure they get noticed and the college can boast about the same in the newspapers. The final ratings would be that infrastructure scores maximum, then the academic part and last for the faculty as they were horrible.
