Sinhgad College of Engineering B.Tech Review By Darshan Patel

Sinhgad College of Engineering Vadgaon has lost some of its reputations in the last few years otherwise it was one of the best a decade back. If it wasn’t, it wouldn’t have had so many students from other states coming and joining this college. I also belong to that list and had my ups and downs but overall I was satisfied as I learned a lot of new things at SCOE. What I learned at the campus was not just squeezed to engineering but for my overall development as well. Engineering standard has changed now as if you throw a stone in the crowd, it will hit an engineer as our country produces millions of engineers every year. It was an institute that taught us that we should walk the right path if we want to gain something out of engineering. It was a self-study thing among the students themselves and teachers did help us out at times. Overall to make a profitable career, Sinhgad may not be the best institute but it isn’t worst either.

The scenario was good as the classrooms and the institute atmosphere was conducive for studies. The lectures started a bit early but had no choice as attendance in the first 2 years was at least compulsory. The things changed post that as students used to stay at the hostel the whole day and still were allowed to appear for the practicals and the semester exams. As I said the spiral is downward and what happened in 2018 is we all know. Luckily I passed out much before and in our times the education system was in line.

The faculty always had complained that they are underpaid and that is why they never gave their best. They were good enough as they were knowledgeable and had a hoard of experience in their bank. One thing about them is that they never ignored our doubts or if asked they gave personal classes on particular topics we had doubts. They were mediocre at times and super friendly the other time. Unpredictable is what I would say about the faculty of SCOE as it all depends upon their mood whether they will take the classes seriously or will just come and read the prompter displayed through projectors.

E&C is one of the top branches of the institute and the placement scenario was also quite good then. Pune has taken giant strides and that made sure that we all had our offer letters from the industries that are located in Pune. Bajaj Auto, Hyundai from auto while from IT there were all gun companies present during the placement week. IT companies have introduced their tests and we were trained to pass those tests. Over 70% of students passed that test with flying colors and their next step interview was like a cakewalk. Thus the placement scenario was good and the package offered was as good as what other engineering colleges in Pune offer.

The hostel is common for all the institutes of Sinhgad and there are 10 boys and 8 girls hostel inside the campus. For the first year, the rooms are allotted on a 4 sharing basis, and then from the subsequent years it changed to triple sharing and double sharing. The rooms were huge and packed with good interiors to make life easy. The fees were also reasonable as 75k including the mess was cheap I would say. The food was just manageable as Maharashtrian food is spicy while my taste is exactly the opposite. However, there are various canteens inside the campus that serves different variety of food and therefore that can be managed. The institute location is such that outsiders had to opt for the hostel as there aren’t many residential facilities for students near the institute.

Sinhgad Vadgaon campus is massive and spread across acres. The campus is thoroughly maintained and barring the location everything about the campus is great. The campus has nearly 20 hostel buildings, 10-12 admin blocks, a separate library, and modern laboratories. The classrooms and workshops inside the campus will remind you of 3 idiots as they are exactly the same. There are 3-4 canteens and 2 dedicated cafeterias for snacks and beverages. The campus has a decent shopping complex that serves all the essential items. The college also has a branch of ICICI Bank and there is also an ATM inside the campus. There is also a medical facility at the campus along with an ambulance. The college has a great sports ground and sporting activities are encouraged by the institute.

Students from various cities and states come to SCOE to study. This made my life fun as I came to know about various cultures. The student-teacher relation was great and so was student-to-student interaction. We had a lot of fun activities and taking on challenges was the best part as I learned how to be calm and composed by participating in activities. The college also organizes various tech events and fests. The college strength was amazing and if you make friends at the campus then your problem becomes your friend’s problem. Students as a whole were united at the campus and SCOE is a great example of unity in diversity.
