Shoolini University B.Tech Review By Ajay Bhumij

I passed out from Shoolini University a while back but the memories are still fresh. Has one ever wondered why HP students hardly step to other states? It’s because Himachal has some of the best Universities and Shoolini University which is unheard of by many is one of the best. I will explain in gist about the University and I hope my review reaches far and wide so that we can have many students from other states coming for studies to some of the best Universities here. Shoolini is one of those as it has all the ingredients from academics to placements. Not just the studies but because I am from the same state, I didn’t felt much difference but others will fell in love with the climate and the infrastructure of the University immediately. The time invested by University in developing the students was highly appreciable. We were made competent enough as engineers so that even without much of an industrial exposure we have the know-how of how industries are run. My time at the University was joyful and full of learning new things.

Coming to the academic, the labs were world-class. As an engineering student and that too mechanical, we had industrial infrastructure at the campus. From workshops to the industrial guidance given by the best in the industry we had enough opportunities of learning. The syllabus was vast and studies could never be completed on time. As a part of the academics, we were given Saturdays and Sundays off so that we can contribute to other things as well. Simultaneously many programs were running at the campus and we had a lot of options to learn new things from. The sporting activities were also a part of the curriculum.

All Ph.D. and highest degree holders. They always motivated us to be the best and to be the best we will have to study further as B. Tech won’t help us be the best. One line said by one of our professors was that there’s nothing in life called in-between and either we study full engineering or we should leave. Those words made all of us clear that let’s get the basics clear in B. Tech and move forward for PG in the same. The faculty was so helpful and most of the faculty members stayed at the campus and we could call them after college hours and they will take a class at any corner of the campus.

Shoolini University placement cell has managed to call some of the best names in the business. MNCs like GKN Driveline, SML Isuzu, and Toyota were among those who had reached out to the mechanical branch students. Groz Beckert Asia offered one of our batch mates an offer worth 18 lakhs. They must have seen something in him before they offered that kind of a placement offer. In all the average placements were around about 4-5 lakhs but because our faculty insisted on us to try for higher studies most of the students didn’t even applied for the campus placements.

It’s the American company Good Host Spaces that run the hostel of the University. Shoolini University Hostel fees are marginally higher but the safety at the residence was such that parents didn’t even hesitate to send their daughters. The residence facility for boys and girls was inside the campus. There were 2 boys' hostel buildings. One with a double bed and with a triple bed. The hostel had Wi-Fi and study areas in each hostel. The common room at the boy's hostel had a TV with a DTH connection, indoor sports, and a theatre with a seating capacity of almost 200. There was also a medical facility at the hostel and separate rooms for students if they required any medical emergency. The hostel building also had tea, & coffee vending machines and a cafeteria that served snacks till 11 pm. The food provided was also top-class as we were provided breakfast, lunch, and dinner and the fees for the food was 7000 per month. It was reasonable because if we went out for food it would have been time-consuming plus expensive than what the mess charged.

Shoolini University campus was awarded the cleanest campus award in 2016. If anyone was found throwing garbage or plastic at the campus, they were severely fined. The University library called Yogananda library was opened 24*7. The campus was built in 20 acres and had a campus that is an example of a 22nd-century campus. The e-learning hut (Estudios) for online classes. All the classes taken at the campus were recorded and if we missed them by chance we can go there and take the classes again. A radio center called Radio Shoolini was a master class. However, that was only for mass-comm students who used to run news bulletin from there. The open Amphitheater where many artists and actors come and perform was the best place on the campus and I have some of the most amazing memories from there. There are 2 seminar halls named Peter Drucker Hall and Ratan Tata Hall.

The University has solar panels installed and as a mechanical engineering student, it was our task to produce double the electricity that we consumed. The projects and all done at the campus are something that is not even given at the best of the institutes. Go Green is the watchword at the campus and the management along with the students are working in the direction so that the campus remains as green as ever.
