My experience at the institute was memorable to say the least. There are various societies which we can join and fests happen throughout the year. You have to wake up at 5 to reach college at 6 AM if you're a B.Com morning student but that inculcates the habit of waking up early. Attendance isn't given even if you're a minute late which will teach you to always be on time even if its early morning in the winter or raining heavily in the monsoons. That being said it’s the best college for commerce in eastern India and ranks 3rd overall in the country as per NIRF ratings. If you cannot go to DU, this is the place to be. Some of the brightest minds of our country such as LN Mittal, Shashi Tharoor, and Sourav Ganguly are alumni of our college.

For entry into B.Com an average of 93-94% marks will be required for CBSE board candidates. Admission is on the basis of class 12 marks. Lesser percentage is required for ICSE and WBBSE board candidates. Preference is given to Christian pupils as the college is a Jesuit institution. The curriculum is comprehensive and fully in line with all the professional exams conducted in the country such as CA, CS, MBA, CFA, etc. People studying for these courses will find college very easy. College timings are very convenient for those who want to go for their jobs or CA Articleship in the morning.

As with all institutions there are a few exceptionally brilliant teachers and a few mediocre teachers. Usually people don't depend on the college teachers for their studies as most of the studying is done at home from the notes that the teachers provide. Teachers are very qualified regardless of how they teach and majority of them practice in the subject they teach for example most of our law professors also run their own law firms so you can be assured that their knowledge is industry relevant and up to date.

The Placement Cell is one of the most active across colleges in the country. Students from any semester are free to apply to listings on the Placement Cell website. The Placement Cell also hosts a one of its kind internship fest called INITIUM where hundreds of companies are invited to place internship offers for willing students. Students can apply for proper jobs through the Placement Cell from the 5th semester onwards. Average placement is around 7-8 lakhs per annum which is huge for a mere B.Com graduate.

Yes, an official college hostel run by the college is available although very few people use it. Most outside students prefer PGs or renting flats with their friends.

Xavier's has a sprawling campus spanning a few acres. There are two entry gates. The ground is shared with St Xavier school and is very big in size. There is a cricket pitch on the big ground and a basketball ground behind the main ground. There is a gym with the latest facilities and a library with an expansive collection of books and journals in which students can study throughout the day. There are three computer labs. The college canteen functions throughout the day. We also have an auditorium that was recently renovated. Seminars where guest lecturers are invited are held every Saturday. The campus is very easily accessible and is at a walking distance from maidan metro station.

The overall campus life is very happening if you are not doing any professional course as the college has many societies that you can join. The campus is very lively with different events, sports, etc. activities happening throughout the year every day. Societies invite famous singers and comedians. The biggest College fest of eastern India called the Xavotsav is held for 3 days every year and it's the best 3 days of the year for any Xaverian. The college is located in park Street which is the party capital of Kolkata as all the best pubs and clubs are located here. There are hundreds of cafes within walking distance of the college. There's also The Indian Museum, The Park Street Symmetry, Victoria Memorial and The Birla Planetarium within walking distance of the college.
