GITAM University M.Tech Review By Anshu Kumari

GITAM University Vizag is obviously a cupcake for students who have rich parents. After failing to get admissions through merit, GITAM Vizag was the only option as they just need a bank balance that can afford them. The University claims to be better than the rest in the state but that can be said only in terms of infrastructure. Many people were in awe that it is the biggest but that is because they haven’t seen the Andhra University campus. GITAM University Visakhapatnam is one of the most glorified Universities like SRM or others but the only problem is that GITAM only has a presence in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. If you ask about the University in any other states they will have no idea about it. Enough of being a critic and the things which impressed me about the University are you will make friends with the students who come from a well-to-do family. The classrooms are modern and are air-conditioned. GITAM Visakhapatnam campus is super clean as you will see sweepers at work all around the clock. If you stay in the hostel, you can have everything inside the campus from medicines to groceries. For locals, they have buses that will pick and drop you at your stations at a fee in which you can certainly buy a 2 wheeler.

In this aspect, its average as the air-conditioned classrooms even made the faculty yawn at times. The high-tech classrooms with modern teaching made learning fun. Poking and making fun of each other is how 30 minutes used to pass out in an hour-long class. Most of the students of the University were in a way not serious and placement was certainly not on their list. Students are encouraged to be a part of extra-curricular activities and most of the students do enroll themselves so that they can avoid the classes.

More than young as a couple of them were still in their 20s. They just finished their M. Tech and without any experience were hired by the University as they were from IITs. Experience doesn’t hold any value as per the University norms as degree wise all the faculties were from IITs or BITs for that matter. The young faculty did bring in some energy with them and were quite helpful. The experience which lacked was evident in their teaching style and methods. They sometimes took a break as they were not aware of the topics entirely.

Proper guidance and training were offered because the management thought we have been trained so well that we will take home a million plus dollar package with us. The total strength of our class was 60 and 20 of them did appear for the placements. There were 4-5 companies in all and TCS handed an offer letter of 6 lakhs to all who appeared. I was offered the same in their Chennai IT Park. We had a feel-free period of 15 days to answer our employer whether we want to take that job or not. Since my parents agreed and one of my friends also had the same offer but for Bangalore. We negotiated to send both of us to the same venue and they accepted our proposal and here we are working in TCS, Bangalore. GITAM got the students placed who wanted a job and one has to give them due credit for that.

Wow was the first word when I saw GITAM University Vizag Hostel. Here again, locals are not allowed to stay but we were allowed to enter the hostel premises, if we had friends and if we are visiting them only during the visiting hours. The rooms had ACs and foam beds. Even the wash basin used was of top brands. GITAM University is often accused as a money sucker but one should also look at the kind of facilities they offer to the students. I also had meals at the hostel and I saw one of the students cursing the food. I don’t know why she did so because the food provided was an absolute peach.

Vizag is home to many Universities and GITAM Vizag Campus has the best infrastructure of them all. The area is huge and then the buildings. There are 20 or maybe more but all of them so well maintained and neat that I didn't felt like bunking the college ever. Vizag has won the cleanest cities award multiple times and if any such awards were there for the Universities, GITAM would have won it hands down. Outdoor sports facilities were good but the indoor sporting facilities were world-class. Andhra has produced some of the top shuttlers and the University also has given the onus to having a world-class badminton court inside the campus. If I keep writing about the infrastructure, I can fill pages after pages. The University has taken students' care in all aspects by providing an infrastructure that has banks, canteens, and stores inside the campus.

Extra-curricular activities consumed maximum time at the campus. For enjoyment, the college is the best as young teachers also brought some humor along. The students were all from rich families but showoff or flaunt of wealth inside the campus was hardly seen. The annual fest had a lot of drama, and action and was closely followed as you will find fests images in college magazines every year. To feature in the magazine, students gave their best shot.
