National Institute of Technology B.Tech Review By Apoorva Jain

I am currently pursuing Bachelors of Technology at NIT Jamshedpur in Electrical Engineering Branch. This is an Institute of National Importance. I have just completed my first year. Talking about my overall experience it is great till now. If you are not getting IIT's or top 3 NIT'S it would be a great choice as placement ratio and stats are very good in comparison to other NIT's. Even the core branches have almost 100% placement ratio which makes this college an ideal choice. Placement and this NITIAN tag is something which made me choose this college and others should also go for it.

This Institute offers Bachelors of Technology at undergraduate level in total 8 branches that are Computer Science Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Computational Mechanics, Civil Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, and Production Engineering. If you want to take admission in any of these branches you first need to give the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) MAINS and on the basis of your rank you need to appear in JOSSA and CSAB counseling and this college will be then allotted to you. Your motive for enrolling in any of these courses should be clear to get the highest placement or skills in the same field.

In the first year or first two semesters all the branches will have the same common curriculum which includes subjects like physics, chemistry, mathematics, English, Electronics, Mechanics, Material science, basic electrical, etc which gives an overview of all the further subjects of all branches. Then from the second year or third semester onwards you will have your core subjects of the respective branches like for Electrical there are subjects like Power Electronics etc. All the faculties are supportive. But mostly students learn from YouTube and other online sources a week before Examinations. Academics at NIT JSR are chill if you are serious up to a level. And faculty does give good marks if you are attentive in the class or if they know you by name or face.

Placement cell at NIT JSR is its biggest pro. Many companies do visit our campus and almost all the placement statistics are on campus. Big companies like Atlassian also come and gives packages like 85 LPA. Overall Placement is 93% and in many branches it is 100% with an average of 13 LPA. It really helps the students as for most of the students placements are of vital importance and this college won't let you down in it. Even in the situation of this big recession it has tremendously done well. Students will get internship opportunities from their 3rd year only though females are preferred for them. For placements you can rate it 10 on 10.

Yes it has separate hostel facilities for both girls and boys. Hostels are pretty good and mess food is also better compared to other Institutes. It is eatable. You will be bored after six months but the quality of the food is good. Boys will get double occupancy rooms in the first year and single from second year onwards. Girls do get triple sharing rooms from their 1st to last year. In the room there is a bed and table provided to the student along with an almirah for your luggage. You need to purchase all other essentials like mattress, pillows, curtains etc. Bathrooms and washrooms are sharing based. Only fans are allowed. No coolers or AC's provided. This is a negative point about hostels as weather of Jamshedpur is very hot and humid. But you need to bear. Lecture hall and library has air conditioners so you can go there. There is one night canteen also in the hostel premises for late night cravings. Infrastructure is average. Rooms are allotted on the category basis. In timings for boys and girls are 10 and 9 pm respectively. There are also new hostels in the construction phase for accommodation.

You won't be much happy seeing all that as most of the campus is unused and empty like forest. Academic building of NIT JSR is one of the best academic buildings of any NIT. It is even comparable to IIT'S. The classrooms are fully Air conditioned and with a sitting capacity of approx 120 students with a smart board and all other facilities. But other old academic buildings are worn and torn. They are like any other government aided institutes. A gym is recently built in the college. You need to go to old academic section for your labs and workshops. There is a dispensary in the college for your medical assistance and there are juice corners, Dosa hut and Nescafe for your eateries. Most students hang out at these open places. College is also having one canteen. Grounds are available for outdoor sports and badminton and volleyball courts are also available here. You will get all the necessities but you can't expect 5 star availabilities.

Your overall college or campus life depends upon how good friends you will make. If your friend group will be happening you will also like the college. Talking about clubs there are numerous clubs starting from cultural to literary to sports to technical. There is dance, music, drama, photography, literary, arts, cricket, football, volleyball, badminton, coding, car making, IoT, and much more clubs. There are basically three fests of our college first cultural that is Culfest then sports i.e. Urja and then technical that is Ojass. All are great and big artists are invited for fests. The vibe is something different especially of Culfest that cannot be described in words. Crowd here is diverse ranging from north to south Indians having Bengalis as major population. All in all you will not get time for all the activities. This much clubs activities are here. You will be tired so choose wisely.
