An answer to the question of how is the college overall is subjective. Basically, it depends on what an individual is looking in a college. The faculty was too good and we got excellent exposure in the college. Every now and then the college organizes seminars, internship programs and project work. Commerce department of the college is again excellent from academic view. The crowd of B.Com though is hard to find as many students from UP Board and Bihar Board is what you will find sitting next to you. One has to be passionate enough to get involved in other activities of the college. Hindu College is not just a college where you will come and take degree. There are a lot of possibilities and many areas to cover. The college has various societies and you can be a part of any society that you like. The college’s parliament was one of the best places to see the political world from your own eyes. A college that offers much and in demand just asks for attendance is a very good deal.
B. Com (Hons) from DU is one of the most chased courses all across the country. Hindu College though is famous for science just like St. Stephens College is for Arts. Hansraj College was my first choice but circumstances were such that I took admissions in the Hindu College. It’s not that I am saying this with a heavy heart and rather I am happy that I pursued my graduation from the Hindu College. Attendance was strict and 75% was just a number but one has to have above 50% or see yourself on the sidelines for a year. On the whole, Hindu College offers a lot of learning other than academics as the syllabus part is more or less the same in all DU Colleges.
If ever there’s a hardest nut to crack on this earth, it was faculty of the Hindu College. One can please God but definitely not the faculty of the Hindu College. If you are good in a particular subject the faculty will still have complaints from you that you only know half the things. During a college life, one can’t just sit in library and read all about world economics. At least I wasn’t that genius that the faculty were looking for. Even if you have made college proud at the University level still, they will find some nooks in your performance and ask you to better that next time you represent the college. God, please give them some more power and pleasing power if possible.
Every year, we have seen the declining trend in placements. When I compare the figure of my batch with that of previous batch, it was quite less. 40 odd percent students got the placement offer from the campus and mostly from the sports good manufacturing companies who are also the goods suppliers of the college. Even the kind of placements that were offered were not that great and at least I was not pleased with the college’s placement.
In the college campus there’s a decent sized boy’s hostel. The hostel though is quite old and even the capacity is less, if it is put in perspective with the actual demand. If one has to learn politics then they should join Hindu College’s hostel. One example of exemplary politician who learned politics from the Hindu College’s hostel is none other than Dr. Subramaniam Swamy. There are many such examples as a lot of top politicians have come from the Hindu College. Talking about the hostel, it was occupied with students from UP and Bihar who also dominated all the proceedings of the hostel.
Modern teaching equipment made the classroom look attractive. The canteen’s food was pathetic but still it was always crowded. The auditorium will see some prominent personality giving guest lectures. Amidst all this one thing that college should blow its trumpet for is its sporting facilities. Many sporting facilities are available at the Hindu College. Many Indian athletes trained at the college facilities before the 2010 Common Wealth Game. I was in awe of the facilities and it was the first time in my life when I saw wrestling being played on mats. The badminton court too is one of the hottest properties of the college as it is made as per international standard. Among Delhi University Colleges, Hindu College campus is probably one of the best.
As I have mentioned in overall review, college life can be good for you, if you find what you are looking for. I came to college for study and have some fun. Honestly, I had both in abundance. Hence, I consider myself quite lucky to be a part of such a beautiful college that has taught me a lot of things in life.
I did my graduation from Sri Venkateswara College, South campus, and for PG, I came to the North campus. North Campus has its perks, and Hindu is again one of the best colleges of DU. Not many DU colleges offer M.Sc programs, and Chemistry being my preferred subject, Hindu was among just the few options that I had. Hindu was in my plan B initially, but after studying here, all I can say is, I did the right thing. The college has a long history from being affiliated with Punjab University to comi... Hindu College is one of the best and when I say best, I mean it. Moving on, I will take you back to my orientation day. Hindu college has a rule wherein during the first week of the college, students and teachers had to introduce themselves to each other. If you start your introduction in Hindu, every single line that you speak has to be in Hindi then. Likewise, if you do it in English, every single word and line has to be in English then. If you chop and change words, you will have to start it ... Read Full Review
There's a road that divides St. Stephens College and Hindu College. Both are the top colleges of Delhi, and the competition is therefore consistently very high. If they produce a topper in a particular year, Hindu has to do it the following year. College's environment had a huge impact on our progress. The college offered various things for students with different interests. Like, if your interest in sports, the college has appointed coaches for many sports. Likewise, if you are into politics, n...
