Institute of Home Economics B.Sc Review By Bhuvika Jasuja

I never really thought about this course as I was from a science background and had always dreamt of courses like MBBS, BDS, etc. But once I entered the college, I experienced wide range of interesting subjects and people with different goals and aspirations. I could see so many interesting fields so I decided to stay in the course.

The academics of the institute are not compromised at any cost. The institute is serious about studies and the students are interactive and responsive too. There are different departments like Microbiology, Journalism, Elementary Education, Food Tech, Home Science, and Biochemistry.

The institute has excellent and dedicated faculty members who are amazing at their work. All the departments have passionate HODs and teachers who are dedicated to the college. They are very helpful and cooperative. They regularly conduct sessions for the students to make them aware of various topics and also conduct career planning sessions for the ones who are confused in their careers. The faculty also is supportive for those who are interested in research projects.

The college's placement cell is tirelessly working to facilitate students with internship and job opportunities. The students with a background of Journalism have done internships in big news channels and media houses. The students from a background in Nutrition have done internships in big food brands. The students from the Fashion background have done internships in reputable fashion brands.

No hostel facilities but PGs are available near the institute area.

The college’s infrastructure is quite developed. The institute has got a sports hall, basketball court, gym, badminton quadrangle, girl’s common room, a foyer, a main stage near the basketball court where the main events are organised, and an amphitheater where different occasions are celebrated. The institute has a comforting vibe that makes you feel at home.

The institute is at an amazing location which has got various places around like Hauz Khas village, deer park, etc. The campus life is good. There are different societies where students can take part in the area they are interested in. Tarkaas is an Indian Music Society of Institute of Home Economics which focuses on music events. The Western Dance Society: Eleganza has bagged so many awards in various university competitions. There are many other societies like Poise: The fashion society of Institute of Home Economics comes under the top 5 fashion societies of the University of Delhi; Navrang: The theatre society; YUVA (Youth United For Vision and Action): A society that works towards the welfare; Arthiniti: The economics society; Voices: The mental health society; Eminence: The placement cell; Enactus: The entrepreneurship society, which supports business ideas, and more. The NSS initiative is also held at the Institute of Home Economics. The Human Development and Childhood Studies, HDCS department offers counseling sessions for students struggling with mental health or decision making.
