CU Chandigarh Admission Process and CUCET Scholarship Program

Chandigarh University offers a two-year Master’s program and I pursued my MA in Economics from here. One of my school seniors who did her graduation from there basically suggested it. After going through the detailed information of the University, I visited one of their offices branch located in Jaipur. After getting all the insights regarding the course, eligibility criteria, fee structure, diverse and experienced faculty, top placements, and other information, both my parents and I were convinced for the university.

The admission form can be filled either by visiting the college website or by visiting the office located in your city. After the admission process, every student needs to go through an entrance exam named CUCET that is also a scholarship program. After the results, students get to know their fees that they need to pay for their course after deducting the scholarship amount. In this course, there are four semesters, two in each year. There are two mid semester tests and one final test in each semester. Apart from that, the course includes quiz, assignments, and presentations every month to ensure that the course outcome is achieved.

The overall fee of the course chosen by me is around 4 Lakh for a two-year program. In each semester, students need to pay around Rs. 48,000 to 50,000 excluding other facilities such as hostel, accommodation, transport etc. The fee varies for different courses, programs, scholarship, and entrance exam. On the basis of results of CUCET, the scholarship amount is deducted from the fee structure of that particular course. Moreover, the university also offers loan assistance to the students and the students can get financial aid by applying for different loans that the university offers which are offered by different financial aid companies.

The faculty members are from different states and countries with years of experience in teaching. In my course, many of my faculty members were PhD holders with excellence experience and knowledge. Also, we had International faculties to ensure that student is given a diverse environment where they learn from faculty who has wide range of knowledge and their different opinions on the topics created a thoughtful and understanding environment for the student. Faculties used to teach using different methods such as presentations, practical examples, blackboards, group discussion to create an engaging classroom for the students. In my class, the teacher to student ratio was 1:27. Most of the faculty members were easily approachable and helpful to solve the issues of the students. After every semester, the students need to give a feedback of their faculty members including their teaching knowledge, methods, and whether the outcomes are achieved or not on their student profile in their phones.

The university is ranked among the top 20 colleges and universities in India as per the latest data. The placements vary as per the courses. For the placement, mostly the top recruiters were hiring the students from medical, engineering and technology courses, and MBA. There is a separate placement cell, where students can ask their queries. Apart from that, there were very less placement offers for my course mainly offering sales and marketing jobs. Recession and low demand of jobs due to pandemic was one of the reason, less placements were offered to our course. The highest packages were around 70 to 80 LPA that was offered to one of the engineering student. However, my placement experience was quite good, because all the necessary details were already circulated among the students. So, interested students applied for the job and then some of them were selected and passed for the next round. So, the overall experience was smooth with the placements that were offered to us. The only drawback was that there were less number of companies that were offering the jobs in our course.

University offers separate hostels for both male & female students and faculty members with an appropriate distance among the hostels. The fee structure of the hostel differs with starting from 2 seater to 6 seater rooms. There are around 6 to 7 hostels for girls and around 5 to 7 hostels for boys offering 400 to 600 rooms in each hostel. Each hostel has its own canteen. The hostel has very few strict rules regarding timing and protocols that are needed to be followed by every hostler. Personally, I did not choose hostel facility because of late admission and the room that I preferred was not available. So, I chose to reside in a PG that was near my University and transport was easily accessible for the areas in the range of 20 to 40 KMs.

The campus size of this university is very huge because of its location in the outskirts of Chandigarh (near Chandigarh Ludhiana highway). The infrastructure of the University differs from each other. Each academic block has 3 to 6 floors with classrooms, staff rooms, washrooms on each floor and library in each academic block. There are different academic blocks for each course and program, which helps the students to easily locate their blocks. Each classroom has a projector and different seating arrangements as per the student’s comfortability. There are canteens in each block and huge food courts are there in every alternate blocks. Apart from that, there are many shops of food, stationary, and other necessary items. So, everything that a student needs starting from educational material to personal, medicals, and ATMs machines are also available in the campus. Also, a separate parking and transport facility is available to easily commute from north block to south block in the campus.

I had decent experience in my campus life. The crowd was great, there were students from different states and countries. So because of diversity, I learnt a lot from each of them. For extracurricular activities, there are different clubs in the University, starting from education, sports, games, dance, singing, etc. So, students can pursue their hobbies along with academics by enrolling in these clubs. Also, various workshops, seminars, and events are organized by the student and university council. Fests are organized once and twice in a year to engage and boost the morale of the students. So that the students can enjoy all the aspects of a college life. Overall, the campus is very safe for students.
