BIT Mesra's Campus Life: Club Activities and Fests

My personal experience says BIT Mesra is a very beautiful place with a very peaceful vibe making it a very good place to study. The faculty and other staff members are all helpful and well behaved. The institute seems a little remote, which limits the exposure, but the students here come from all over India and sometime outside of India. The environment here is very lively and cheerful. I was considering other institutes before coming here, but given the fact that it is near my home, affordable and is a decent institute to start with. Two of my cousins have already passed out of institute and are working in corporate at good pay grades.

I am perusing EEE, motive of choosing this course is that, I thought it was the best choice for my development and further advancements. Clearing the cutoff set by the institute is the only requirement criteria to get into. Admission process of the institute is simple but a little time taking, everything was done in half a day and I was admitted as well as allotted a hostel room. In a semester of 3-4 months 4 parts of exams are conducted, 1 quiz of 10 marks, then a mid sem of 25 marks, again a quiz for 10 marks and finally the end sem of 50 marks. The exams here are moderate. We can pass them easily.

The fee here is a little costly compared to other B.Tech institutes. The course is divided into 8 sems for 4 years. 1st year fee is Rs. 1,57,000 with Rs. 25,000 as hostel fee; 2nd year fee costs Rs. 1,75,000; 3rd year fee is Rs. 1,87,000 and 4th year fee is approx. 2 Lakh. The hostel fee 2nd year onwards is Rs. 20,000.

The faculty here is very well behaved and well natured. All of them are very good to their students, and respects the wishes of their students. They all work hard to make the syllabus clear to us, even take extra classes if we make blunders in exams. They handout their self-researched notes for better understandings. The students are also allotted faculty advisors, 1 faculty advisor manages around 10 of his students. The professors are responsible for how they decide to teach. Smart boards as well as blackboards, both are used during the process. Teachers are PhD holders and have prior experience in teaching before here. They all are gold medalists of their time. Most professors are approachable and maintain a friendly behavior with all of us.

Placements here are given by many companies inside the campus. Campus placement and outside placement both require certain qualifications and conditions to be met, other than that, all the students are eligible to apply for placements. TNP cell of our institute is responsible for the sole purpose of students being placed.

Hostel infrastructure is very well maintained. Each floor has more than 100 students over which 3 washrooms are provided. All those washrooms are cleaned twice a day, so hygiene is properly maintained. The taste of the mess food might not be of everyone's liking but is rich and healthy. The hostel fee is taken per semester. Most of the hostel rules are same except the curfew time for girls, which is 9 PM at night and 6 AM in the morning. Boys have 11 PM curfew at night and 6 AM in the morning. However, no restriction is made to boys for roaming even after 11pm. They are free to roam in campus.

The institute is situated in an 80 acre of forestland and in between academic building, hostels, faculty quarters and staff quarters are there. All of the buildings including academic, hostels and labs, all of them are strongly and beautifully built. Without harming the nature around, BIT Mesra has been one of the largest and most mesmerizing campuses in India. 13 hostels are there, in which students from 1st to 4th year are residing. Huge classrooms and lab rooms are given, with sufficient space for holding a class of 100. Library and seminar halls are present. In case medical emergency, dispensary is available 24/7. 6 buses are released each day to city for transport, well-maintained security and well maintained infrastructure is there.

Campus life is quite and peaceful with many things happening inside. The crowd here is composed mainly of campus students around my age. Most of them are approachable and friendly. There are more than 20 clubs ensuring nothing is left behind from Technical Geeks to Singers And Dancers. Student body maintains all the clubs. Institute celebrates two major fests each year, ‘Bitotsav’: the Cultural Fest and then Tech-A-Thon: the Tech Fest, where students show the sides they excel at.
