IIEST Howrah: Counselling Process, Fees, and Scholaships

My overall experience in this institute has been good so far. The lush green campus offers a good environment for studying and living. Infrastructure is being developed constantly and will continue to grow in next few years. There are various clubs and societies to be a part of. I am in my first year and overall experience is good. However, facilities should be improved. Students in this institute are very helpful and crowd is good. I chose this institute because of the placements, which are nice.

I chose B.Tech in Information Technology because it is a relevant field in today’s market. I want to become a Machine-Learning Engineer. Admission in B.Tech courses are based on score in JEE main exam, through JOSAA counseling. You have to qualify JEE main, then if you are enrolled in any course, you have to come for physical verification with all the documents. There are two exams per semester, mid and end semester examination. Exams are easy. Course is relevant, with new topics constantly included in course. Overall academics are good and easy.

The semester wise fees are Rs. 1,00,500. Tuition fees are Rs. 75,000. Hostel fees are Rs. 25,500. There is a 2/3rd tuition fee waiver for students who’s family’s annual income less than Rs. 1,00,000. Full tuition fee waiver for ST/SC and PWD students. Alumni of our institute provide GAABESU scholarship.

Faculties are good, well experienced and knowledgeable. Most of the faculty have done their PhDs from IITs and NITs. Mostly teaching is done through blackboards and PPTs. They are able to solve all the doubts asked in the class. You can approach any professor in their cabin any time without any problem. Teacher to student ratio is good. Personally, I have less interaction with professors but I have seen students asking many doubts without hesitating. Teaching quality is good and they teach you all necessary stuff.

Over 140 companies participated in the 2024 placement of this institute, with 524 job offers. The highest package offered in 2024 was 56 LPA, median salary for B.Tech students was 8.5 LPA and for PG students was 4.8 LPA. Companies like Microsoft, Google, TCS, Wipro, Cognizant, Accenture, IBM, PWC, Uber, Texas Instruments, Samsung, Maruti, Hyundai, Wells Fargo, Deutsche Bank, and SalesForce came for placement drive. Placement rate is approximately 78–90% for engineering branches. Whereas, CST and IT have 90% placement rate in recent years. Other than that, students apply for off campus placements and internships too. 6-month internships can be taken in 4th year.

Hostel facilities are provided. There are 14 boys’ hostels and 3 girl’s hostels. Basic facilities are provided like bathroom, food, table, bed, etc. Girls and boys hostel are separate. Mess food is given three times a day, which is of good quality but average taste. Hostel fees Rs. 25,500 per semester. Hostel timings vary but average is around 10 PM. My personal experience is good and happy.

It is a 114-acre campus in Howrah, West Bengal. Classrooms are equipped with all facilities, and new buildings have modern setups. Labs are equipped for hands-on training, with specialized facilities for Programming And Software Development, Automobile, Carpentry, and more. The Ramanujan Central Library, has about 1,58,000 books and 41,000 bound journal volumes. There is a health unit with medical officers and 24/7 ambulance service. An Isolation Ward is available for infectious diseases. The campus is Wi-Fi-enabled, but connectivity is inconsistent in older hostels, although satisfactory Wi-Fi connectivity is there in libraries and new buildings. Swimming pool, basketball courts, cricket and football grounds, badminton and volleyball courts, and a gymnasium are also there. Halls, such as the Alumni Seminar Hall, support conferences and workshops.

Overall campus life is good. You can take a walk around the lush green campus. Institute crowd is good as they came through JEE main. There are many clubs in institute in almost every activity. I am a part of CodeIiest the Coding Club of IIEST Shibpur. Festivals like ‘Instruo’ and ‘Rebeca’ make campus life great, fostering creativity and technical skills. Many industry meet-ups and workshops are held. Each department has its own departmental fest, which is good. Each society and club also engages through events and meets.
