IIEST Shibpur Offers Merit Based Scholarships

Currently I am in 2nd year of my Institute pursuing B.Tech in Information Technology. Overall, my experience is good. Professors are really good and helpful great campus, even semester come with lot of fun with the oldest tech fest of Asia ‘Rebecca’. Campus is ragging free. Alumni network is strong it really helps the students be it placement or higher education. Many seniors really help you if you approach them. The societies and clubs are active and in the even semester there is some event in every weekend almost.

I have chosen the Information Technology branch as the placement in this one is quite good and there are good research opportunities (like some seniors have published more than 3 research papers in 3rd year). One has to crack JEE Main exam & take part in JoSAA counselling to get admission. In addition, you must satisfy the 75% criteria or top 20 percentile criteria of counselling. Here, we have mid semester exam of 30 marks and end semester exam of 50 marks and internal(assignment + class test + attendance) has 20 marks. Currently, the curriculum is updated regularly so that students can adapt with the new AI era. Every student irrespective of their branch has AI-ML as a subject in the 1st year. Most departments organises Seminars and talks for the students.

At time of admission, tuition fees my Rs. 96,000/- per semester. Here, certain students are offered scholarships as per their scores and merit.

In my course, faculties are quite good and helpful. Many of them have studied from this Institute. They teach all the concepts very clearly and explain on repeat if you cannot understand the topic lab-teaching assistants are quite good they also help you. Most of the teachers use smart board or PPTs while some prefer blackboard. All of them are very much approachable. The teacher student ratio is almost 1:15. If you need any help from the professors you can simply visit their cabin and asked them for the help.

Placement Cell of the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology Howrah is good. It directly contacts companies through alumni networks or other methods to invite them to the campus drives. Students are also offered Internships.

Hostel rooms are available for students on a 2, 3, 4, and other sharing basis. Allocation of rooms is dependent over students’ academic year. My personal experience while staying in hostel is good. There are certain and in & out timings of the hostels, which all hostellers of the IIEST Shibpur have to follow.

Campus is of 130 acres and there are lakes, ponds, natural study park, gym, and lot of places where you can sit to have peace or talk with your friends. Campus is very close to the Botanical Garden & is 30 minutes away from the Howrah Station. Classrooms are good and have AC. Most of the labs are air conditioned in IT and CST. We have Ramanujan Library with lot of books and study spaces. There are 3 canteens but no night canteen in the campus. There is 24x7-health centre and ambulance service available. There is I-Hal , Seminar halls, and gateway hall for departments.

Campus life is quite good. The Institute crowd is quite fun. Annual sports meet, Fresher’s parties, and other events are held by management. As I have mentioned earlier, ‘Rebecca’ is one of the oldest events of the Institute.
