Choose SNU Kolkata for B.Sc Economics Degree

My overall experience at the university was good. Although I was very naive at first, I was excited to learn and gain new knowledge. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Economics (Hons) degree. At first, we faced some challenges regarding our classrooms, which were not provided to us on the same campus, and we had our classes in Techno India Group, DN 25 Campus, Sector V, Bidhan Nagar, Kolkata. We were not happy initially, but when we came for our first day, we saw that the campus was pretty clean and good. But we were not happy with the fact that we had not gotten the original campus, which had great space to sit, play, and roam around whenever we got a break from our academics. By the second year of university, we got our campus back, and we were wholeheartedly satisfied. It was a great experience at our old and new campuses. The academics were the thing that was not compromised there. The faculty was very understanding and supportive. The course of the study was effective.

I chose a Bachelor of Science in Economics (Hons) as in classes 11th- 12th; I had decided that I would take this course itself. I looked at the course structure of this university, which was quite related to my interests, so I went to this university. At my time, there was a minimum pass percentage in the 12th as an entry requirement. The admission process was pretty simple. I would suggest going to the campus and doing your admission would be more useful than online admission, as you can look around the campus once and could take immediate action if any problem arises. We had our mid-semester and end-of-semester exam, and teachers used to take weekly tests sometimes. In my time, there were 2-month gaps between mid-semester and end-semester. The faculty was very clear with their thoughts and teaching.

The admission fees were Rs. 56,500. The admission, registration, induction, and program fees were around Rs. 30,000. Caution deposit was Rs. 10,000. The tuition fees were Rs. 5,200, examination fees Rs. 3,000, and student insurance fees Rs. 1,200. The fees per semester were Rs. 20,500.

The faculty members were very supportive and had a great knowledge of their respective subjects. They used to solve our doubts without hesitation. Some of them are Master's holders, or a Doctorate holder. They were very good in their approach to teaching, using techniques to help us in critical thinking and problem-solving skills. We can approach them easily for our doubts and problems. They used to give us projects to improve our analytical thinking. They used PowerPoint presentations to teach us, and also provided us with the class notes.

The size of the campus was satisfactory, it had a basketball court, a nice cafe, a clean canteen, and there was a lot of space to sit and talk to your friends. The campus was filled with beautiful flowers and greenery around, you felt fresh and happy walking around the campus. There was a library too, where you can take a book for a month as per your wish, and there was a seminar hall for webinars and functions. There was once a Garnier's workshop on campus itself.

The crowd at the university was decent and friendly. My campus life was memorable. The great shift from school to university life, the unfamiliar faces initially, the nervousness at first, taught me how to socialize. It also taught me to be independent. I had explored different things out of my comfort zone. It teaches us not only to focus on academics or hard skills, but we also need to focus on other co-curricular activities and soft skills. The university organises various webinars, which have improved my knowledge and given me the strength to explore different things.
