Admission Process for B.Tech CSE at IIIT Kota: JEE Main & JoSAA Counselling

I have currently finished my first year at IIIT Kota and will be moving on to the second year soon. I have joined this Institute mainly because of its solid academic reputation and its rapid growth. It is still in its developing phase but already shows a lot of promise. I have personally been part of the Technical Society and three different clubs, and that gave me a chance to explore beyond just academics. There is a lot of space to grow here if you take the initiative. The environment is very student-friendly, and there is always something happening in the campus, is it coding events, club meets, and cultural programs. Overall, my journey so far has been very positive and full of learning.

I am doing B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering and the reason I picked this course is that I have always been into tech. IIIT Kota's new UG CSE curriculum has really been curated with deep thought. It is designed in a way that mixed theory with hands-on learning. The admission is done through JEE Main and then JoSAA counseling. Once you are in, there is a mix of mid-semester and end-semester exams. It is not too much to handle, but it does keep you connected on a daily basis.

The fee that I have paid is around 1.1 Lakh per semester for tuition. In the first semester, there were some one-time charges for admission and registration. There are fee waivers and scholarships for SC/ST students. Some of my friends have applied for government scholarships through NSP and received support, which is indeed very helpful.

Some professors heavily focus on academics rather than real-life learning. They deliver less industry-relevant content and have adapted old teaching standards and techniques. There are limited faculties and the faculty-student ratio can be improved. Not all faculty members follow a uniform teaching style, some teach with PPTs, some with textbooks, and some with their own notes. I believe there is some communication gap between teachers and students that is creating lesser engagement between them.

It has its own Placement Cell and their SPCs (Student Placement Coordinators), who organize regular sessions for resume building and mock interviews. The placement opportunities are expected to open up more as many companies are coming and placing our students including established companies and new innovative start-ups.

The hostels are decent which consists of basic rooms, clean washrooms, and a good study environment. There are 3 blocks in the boy’s hostel and each block houses a decent number of students comprising of 2 separate wings of each block. The mess food is decent on some specific days of the week but otherwise needs to be improved.

The permanent campus has a basic infrastructure where one can sustain. Classrooms are fully air-conditioned with explicit projector facility. It has a Computer Centre (CC) that has over 100+ computer systems having installed latest technologies in them. Apart from this, it has a library, which consists of various kinds of books spanning from Institute academia, competitive exam books to different genre books. The canteen on campus offers decent food if you are looking for variety beyond mess. It lacks sports amenities like cricket grounds, nets, football grounds, basketball courts, and crucial facility of a dispensary or doctor.

Campus life here is something I have really enjoyed so far. The crowd is chill, diverse, and everyone is super helpful (especially seniors). There is a bunch of clubs, and I have been active in 4 of them in total so far, including the Technical Society. From coding to robotics to literary events and music jams, there is something for everyone. The Institute clubs hosts regular events that could be fun or learning-based. The vibe in the students is very charming and optimistic and one gets many chances to grow and blossom.
