If I summarize my experience at IIT-KGP, it would be all about great memories. It is one of the oldest Institute of Technology in India and a very prestigious Institute. It offers many factors like good environment, great infrastructure and more. Becoming an IITian feels super amazing. I qualified JEE Advance and got a good rank which fulfilled my long held dream. Studying at this Institute provides a powerful base to your career.

I choose B.Sc Physics, 4 year program since the course is nice. What adds to the advantage is that you can choose to go for higher studies if you don’t want placement right after your degree. You can choose to teach at some renowned Institute too, making it a safer branch to go for. If we talk about requirements, the students from general category have AIR less than 7000 in JEE Advance to become eligible to be a part of this Institute. Admissions are taken through JoSAA Counseling. There are 2 semester in every year. Each semester is of 4 months, in every semester 2 tests of 10 marks each are taken and a midterm exam of 30 marks and an end term exam of 50 marks are there for each subject. We usually have 4 to 5 theory courses in each semester and 2-3 lab. In the 1st year of the Institute, exams are not very difficult. In 2nd and 3rd year, the difficulty of the exams increases. But if you attend classes regularly and go through the material provided, it becomes manageable.

The fees is roughly round Rs. 2,00,000/- per year for the tuition fee. This fee consists of the admission fees and the registration fees that students are supposed to pay at the time of the JoSAA Counseling rounds. There are various scholarships available for the deserving students. Those who get good CGPA in their coursework get scholarships too.

Faculty is highly educated, they are best in their courses and also they are experienced with great problem solving abilities. The faculty treats the students nicely. The method of teaching varies from teacher to teacher. PPTs and group discussions are highly prevalent. The teaching skills of the teachers is outstanding too, they make it easy to understand the complex topics. Teacher student ratio is approximately 1:40. My bonding with faculty is great and it’s fun to be around them. The faculty is very cooperative, they listen to all of our problems, may it be personal or academic and provides us with the required guidance.

The placement rate is very good and also students can reach out to the seniors and their alumni during the placement processes to seek guidance. Getting a placement here, according to me, is easy and comes very handy due to the academic excellence it fosters in the students. A lot of company visits the Institute every year in like Google, Meta, Facebook, Amazon and more. Various renowned coaching Institutes come to hire the students as professors at their Institutes. Highest package is 2.61 Crore per Annum the average package is around 18 LPA. I am in 2nd year so I don't have any placement experience as of now but I witnessed a lot of placements last year. There is a student welfare cell and Gymkhana, which helps the students in developing organizational abilities, which may further help the students during the time of placements.

Yes, IIT-KGP offers hostel to the students. The freshers get LBS Hall (Lal Bahadur Shastri hall of residential) for boys and SNVH for girls. There are a total of 7 hostels for UG boys and 5 hostels for UG girls. There are around 650 rooms in LBS Hall and every room is 3 seater. Mess food is decent and a variety of food if offered to the students. The hygiene of the mess is top notch. Hostel fee is Rs. 55,000/- per semester and it is same for all the students. There are no specific rules when it comes to the hostels and there are guards everywhere for the safety of the students. Initially, staying at a hostel might make you feel lonely, but in no time you make a huge family outside home. We enjoy living at the hostel way too much and honestly, it will be one of the best parts of my life here.

The Institute is well designed. There is huge central library in main building and there are separate sections for every department. We also a common academic section where all the students come to attend classes, known as Nalanda building. There are 280 classrooms in it. All the classrooms are always neat and clean. Every classroom has a seating capacity of 120 students with the facility of AC, fans , speakers, projectors, etc. the classrooms are super bright. In every department, we have their separate labs. Seminar Halls, Conference Halls, Hospital and Canteen facilities are provided to the students inside campus. There are around 10-12 restaurants in the hostel. For moving around in the campus, the students use cycles and auto services are also provided.

Campus life is vibrant here. There are around 17,000 students studying here. There are many clubs like the debating club, robotics club, breakfree dancing club and more, There are many extracurricular activities like cricket, football, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, swimming, etc. We have 3 major fests every year: spring fest, Kshitij, and Autumn fest and various activities with DJ takes place every 8th to 9th day. The overall campus life at this Institute is amazing.
