DEC Dumka: My Perception Over Academics, Facilities, and Events

Overall Rating
My experience at Dumka Engineering College, Dumka has been good. The campus environment is peaceful and suitable for studies. Most teachers are supportive and helpful in academics and projects. I chose this College because it is a Government Institution with low fees and close to my hometown. It is a good option for students from rural areas who want quality Engineering education at an affordable cost. What makes it different is its disciplined and calm environment, which helps students focus more on studies and self-development.
 

Academics Rating
I completed my Diploma in Mechanical Engineering and joined B.Tech in the same (2nd year lateral entry) at DEC Dumka because I have an interest in Machines, Automobiles and practical work. I wanted to improve my technical skills and gain deeper knowledge for future career. Admission was based on my diploma marks and document verification. Exams are held semester-wise, with theory and practical labs. Overall, the course gives good knowledge and some exposure to real-life industry work, making students ready for future jobs. Some problem are that the syllabus is not completed timely.
The fee is Rs. 35,000/- per semester, with scholarships for eligible students. Special category students get full Scholarship from E-Kalyan.
 

Faculty Rating
The faculty at Dumka Engineering College, Dumka are very helpful and knowledgeable. Most teachers try to explain things clearly, but sometimes they speak fast and it’s little hard to follow. They are always ready to solve our doubts and give guidance in practical and projects. Overall, teachers are supportive and motivate students to learn, though more examples from industry could make the classes even better. I liked most of my teachers. Special appreciation for Shruti ma’am.
 

Placement Rating
DEC Dumka Placements are average. Only some students get placed directly from College. Highest package was good. Most students do Internships or prepare for Government exams. Overall, Placements are decent for those who work hard, but College can improve industry connections and support students more. Rajiv sir from Placement Cell is very good.
 

Hostel Rating
Hostels are basic but okay. The hostel fee is around Rs. 20,000/- for freshers, and mess fee is Rs. 100/- per day. There is also a one-time hostel admission and registration fee. Rooms have beds and fans, but cleaning is sometimes not up to the mark. Mess food is average, but maximum times it is good. Staff and warden are helpful, and overall hostel is good but food and cleanliness can improve.
 

Infrastructure Rating
My College has a decent infrastructure. Classrooms are simple but spacious, and labs like Mechanical, CAD and Workshop labs are available for practical work. Library has enough books for students. Wi-Fi is limited but sometimes helpful. Campus is clean and peaceful, with grounds for sports like Cricket and Football. Overall, I feel the infrastructure is good for studying and learning, but some labs and facilities can be improved.
 

Campus Rating
My College campus is big and peaceful. It is clean and green, which helps in studying. College organizes annual fest and sports events like Cricket, Football, and indoor games. These events are fun and help students interact with each other. Hostel and mess are inside campus, so everything is convenient. Overall, I like the campus environment, it is calm and good for focusing on studies, but food and event arrangements can be better. In winter season, annual sports day is held.
