IIIT Kottayam: An Unfiltered Perspective

Overall Rating
My overall experience at the Indian Institute of Information Technology Kottayam was decent. The students here are friendly and disciplined. 60% of the students are native speakers of Telugu and Malayalam. There are various technical and cultural events organised frequently. Students get long vacations during summer and winter. However, the fees is high and only some of the faculty has high expertise.
 

Academics Rating
I am B.Tech (CSE) student as it is one of the most in demand branch. If you score more than 97 percentile in JEE Main, you can get admission into all the branches in this Institute. The course is well-structured and relevant to the current industry needs. Classes are conducted from Monday to Friday from 8 AM to 4 PM. On Fridays, we have classes until 12 PM only.
The fees is high. However, SC/ST and Economically poor students can get scholarships of upto Rs. 2,00,000/-. The minimum attendance required for each subject is 80% and a fee is charged if the attendance requirement is not met.
 

Faculty Rating
Personally, I feel that not all the faculty is great. I do not like the teaching method of some and most of the times, the classes do not feel productive. However, there are good professors as well who not only teach well but also let you contribute towards their research. The faculty is mostly from Kerala.
 

Placement Rating
The placements at IIIT Kottayam are good. If you have a decent CGPA of above 8 and good skills, you will be placed. The average salary is 10 LPA as stated by our seniors.
 

Hostel Rating
For first-year male students, there are hostels outside Institute campus. The food provided is average and students often order food online.
 

Infrastructure Rating
The Indian Institute of Information Technology Kottayam campus is small but perfect to accommodate approximately 2000 students. There are around 500 students in each batch and divided into 4 classes. Classrooms have good seating and Smart Boards. There is a small Library where 50 people can sit at once and 2 Canteens that provide food better than the mess. Moreover, there is a Medical Centre and a visiting doctor inside the campus. Moreover, there is an Open Air Theatre where all the cultural activities are organised.
 

Campus Rating
Overall campus life is good. There are multiple Clubs and an annual techno cultural event ‘APOORV’ which is well-organised. My experience has been decent so far.

    The fact that IIIT Kottayam is in Kerala was what that excited me the most and I think that this campus is worth joining among the institute s that I’ll get with my JEE score.     This is a very good institute. We have many great opportunities to get a job. Don't believe negative reviews that you listen as we have great equipment in laboratories and great well enough graduated faculty. For 1st years, hostel may be outside the campus. Management will take care of that they will provide buses. If you can afford fee then joining IIITK is worth joining rather than private institutes.
