IIIT Sonipat: Campus, Admission, and Much More

Overall Rating
I chose IIIT Sonipat through CSAB counseling. After clearing my JEE Main exam, I realized that IIITs are completely focused on Computer Science and IT fields, which makes them different from other Institutes. My rank was not high enough for the top-tier IIITs, but Sonipat seemed like the best option because of its placement record. The best thing that stands out here is my seniors and the solid coding culture they have built.
 

Academics Rating
I chose B.Tech in CSE because of my strong interest in coding. The entry requirement is clearing JEE Main. The admission process is done strictly through JoSAA and CSAB counseling. Regarding the frequency of exams, we have two main exams per semester: a mid-semester of 30 marks and an end- semester of 50 marks, plus practicals.
The tuition fee for the B.Tech course is Rs. 1,00,000/- per semester. The hostel fee is Rs. 1,40,000/- annually, which covers all the mess and food charges. When you include other personal and registration charges, the overall yearly cost goes up to around Rs. 5,00,000/- to Rs. 6,00,000/-. While there are no specific direct discounts from the Institute side, you can apply for various State and central Government scholarships. If you are eligible, you can get up to a 40% scholarship on your fees, which really helps reduce the financial burden.
 

Faculty Rating
All the faculty members teaching our course have strong academic backgrounds and hold Ph.D degrees. Their teaching style is quite engaging and their problem-solving abilities are great. They teach using smart boards and projectors through PPTs, and sometimes even conduct classes directly in the computer labs as well. The teacher-to-student ratio is good, with around 60 students per professor. The bonding with faculty is good.
 

Placement Rating
The IIIT Sonipat has a dedicated Placement Cell that helps us a lot by organizing placement drives and training activities. While companies do not visit for on-campus Internships, the T&P Cell, and our alumni network help, we can explore off-campus internships at tech giants. The Google Summer of Code (GSoC) culture is also very popular and supported here.
 

Hostel Rating
The Institute provides residential facilities with completely separate hostels for boys and girls. The fee is Rs. 1,40,000/- per annum, which includesmess charges. Honestly, the mess food quality is just average; it needs improvement. The hostel rules are quite strict for safety—gates open at 5:00 AM, and you cannot step out after 7:00 PM.
 

Infrastructure Rating
We are finally moving out of the rented setup, so the infrastructure is a big upgrade. The new classrooms are huge with a seating capacity of more than 150 students. The library and computer labs are operational and very well built to handle our technical requirements. The canteen is still developing and will be ready soon. If you are expecting a lush, fully developed campus life right from day one, you might be disappointed as the surroundings are still quite empty, but the core academic facilities are solid.
 

Campus Rating
The overall campus life is heavily tech and gaming-driven. The Institute crowd is very smart and competitive. For engagement, the Institute officially conducts coding tests and we participate in regular hackathons. We celebrate various cultural festivals very enthusiastically and in a grand manner throughout the year. Apart from festivals, we have 3 to 4 major annual fests, each lasting for 7 to 8 days, which include sports tournaments.

I will give this Institute 3.9 rating out of 5 because there is no permanent campus yet. The faculty, infrastructure, and transit campus is good.     I am currently in my first year in this college, and overall crowd and environment is pretty good. There is greenery everywhere. Teachers are helpful and seniors are helpful too. Placement opportunities are provided on campus. Although many fests are not organized which is the case in almost every IIIT other than that, there is a sports fest that is organised every year....     My overall experience at the institute is above average. The college has a great coding culture. It regularly conducts coding contests known as Algozenith. The seniors are very supportive, and the faculties are also great. The only negative aspect of this college is that it does not have its own campus. Classes are held in the building of SBIT college.     I studied hard for JEE mains but unfortunately couldn't get enough rank to get in food IIT, NIT, IIIT as I wanted to study CS/IT only and getting it into these tier 1 college need rank below 20k. In 2019 there weren’t many reviews available, so I got trapped in IIIT Sonipat. Also, earlier this college was mentored nit Kurukshetra so classes of IIIT Sonipat were running in nit campus only but in 2019 we got separated and we were forced to stay in 5-star hotel type college.
