Definitely, the most prestigious college in India. Along with having the largest campuses among the IITs. It is the centre of excellence in education and research. The students here are just genius, no other word describe them the best. The campus produces global leaders for science, technology and management. It has a pre independence history, it is that old college. It is the dream college of almost every engineering aspirant in the country. It is also ranked as one of the best engineering institutions all over the world. The world rank varies, but it is usually under 100. That is insane !!! IIT Kharagpur also known as IITKGP is only about educational excellence, but it transforms you totally in a very positive and professional way. The amount of exposure you get here in the campus, rather than living at any other college hostel or at home is far more than imagination. This is where, if selected, will spend the best days of your life. This is where you will make some best friends who will one day be the world leaders. The B. Tech. course over here is the most in demand all over the country, specially the Computer Science and Engineering one. By the way I am in the Electrical Engineering branch of the B. Tech. course in the college.

Every year more than a million students compete in the JEE examinations for a seat in the IITs, but only a few, I mean only the top 1.5 percentage of the total candidates get here. You can see the cut off; it shows you quality of peers you will get here. Learning and gaining skills here goes beyond the orthodox classrooms teaching and the assignment given in all other colleges. Students here participate in various activities, discussions, event planning, skill building etc. There are various minors and micro specialization courses that one can opt for in their third year to gain a minor degree in addition to their respective bachelor’s main degree. IIT Kharagpur has designed their programs or courses in such a way that one will evolve themselves throughout their stay and explore the creativeness inside them. There are many multi disciplinary courses and research work that you will undergo in the course. This is probably the best engineering course you will ever find on earth!!!

There are almost 500 faculties and professionals working and residing in the campus. They are so much talented that many of them have been awarded some national and international awards in their fields for their work. Many of them are currently and formerly the high position holders in the most coveted organizations and committees in the world that work towards the development of the world. Some of the teaching faculty are so insane that they sometimes come over to the lecture with all their logistics and show us the live demo of some experiments about how they were discovered or invented. I think this level of dedication is rarely seen in any institute in India.

Yes, the institute has a career development center. They help us to improve our soft skills, our personality and professional etiquette through conducting numerous counselling sessions throughout the duration of the course. The placements are fabulous. The top companies of the world recruit from our institute. For example, Google, Meta, Uber, Amazon, Goldman Sachs and all the leading companies that one can name of. That is the power and the status of IIT KGP in the world scenario. The placement cell invites all the best companies from all the sectors of engineering. This year the highest package offered was around a whopping 4 crores, yes it was an international offer. I don't know the name of the company that offered this. The average packages are around 25 lacs per annum. No matter which department you belong to, you will get the best placements in India, here.

It has one of the most beautiful campuses in the eastern region of India. Also one of the largest. It has 22 blocks of residences that accommodates students from all the four years and also the faculties. There are mess available in all the hostels. The co ed concept is not there so girls and boys live in different hostels. There are some restrictions that a student cannot enter the hostel of the opposite gender. The rooms are small, but have to accommodate around 2 to 3 sometimes 4 people at once. While the girls get a room for 2 mates. There are 2 beds, 2 study tables, and one almirah in each of the room. There are bathrooms, washing machines, dryer and hangers for clothes on all the floors. The mess food quality is like ok ish, will not argue on that topic. There is a sports room, a TV room and a gym in each of the hostels.

Since, it is one of the best institutes and the government sponsors and provides the best facilities here, it has all the world class sports facilities such as different grounds and area for all the sports you can name. The hostel buildings are a bit old, I think it’s time to renovate and color it. It is a huge campus, it has many trees for a pleasant weather but sometimes some wild animal look out for a ride in our campus.

The campus life is awesome and full of enjoyment. The students here have the access to the finest labs and faculties that are at par with the world class. It knows the importance of sports and other cultural activities in the life of a student. It thus has the largest festival in eastern India. Students from all over India as well as some top guests from far off countries come to pay a visit to it, and have a session with the batch. The most famous and successful alumni of our college is the CEO of Alphabet and Google, the one and only Sundar Pichai Sir, once made a visit, I was there attending him and it was a life moment for me to watch and listen of him and his life and career. Just wonderful !! There are many events such as music, dance, debate, racing, business games, product designing, entrepreneurship and what not. But you have to work really hard in these clubs to give the best to the other students and make your skills identified. The crowd is the best in India. What not comes to their mind any time, even at 4 o clock at night one of my friend is chatting about making a robot who will chat with us at night, with his best friend. Sometimes these may look like a joke to others but they make it and prove everyone that why they are called the best in the country. All these activities are organized and led by the student clubs which make them a perfectionist in managerial and team work roles. We also have to do projects that are real world problems and we need to find them a solution that can in future be implemented on a large scale for the benefit of the society. Crazy life!!
