IIT KGP's Fee Structure: Scholarships and Financial Aids

I am fully satisfied with my choice of studying here. It is located in a very peaceful area of Kharagpur. From my point of view, it is the most beautiful institute after IIT Jammu. IIT KGP is known for its rich culture and the way it celebrates all festivals of different cultures.

Academics here are easy compared to other IITs like IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur. The curriculum is evolving year by year trying to match best standards. B.Tech in Artificial Intelligence is introduced this year (2025). The exams are: mid-sem of 30 marks, end-sem of 50 marks and 20 marks are in the hands of professors. These 20 marks are based on class tests, surprise tests, attendance, etc.

The total fee includes tuition fee is 1 Lakh which can be reduced based on family income. Hostel fee is nearly Rs. 40,000. Besides this, many other scholarships are available in both private and government funded categories.

The faculties are top-notch. They are mostly from Bengal. Some of them who have left significant mark in research field. I find them supportive in most cases except few rigid ones. Some professors have published upto 110 research papers and have twenty thousand plus citations. They are generally considerate and approachable. Teaching methods include slides and assignments.

Placements of Mining department of IIT KGP are good. On the side note, some prominent core companies have stopped coming since 5 to 6 years due to certain changes in government policy.

Hostels are called ‘Halls of Residence’. The oldest hall is ‘Patel Hall of Residence’. Each Hall has striking ambience as they are surrounded with flowers & greenery and are equipped with water coolers, water filters, geysers, badminton court, basketball court, football & cricket ground, and table tennis. Dining areas are properly cleaned to maintain. Each hall has their canteens , a general store, a Nescafe coffee shop, and a juice shop. Each hall also has its individual festival. All of them are very competitive in nature during activities and competitions.

The infrastructure at IIT KGP is very good . I like it very much. It provides us with library. LAN wireless facility is available all around the campus premises. The institute has 24-hour security at all the main points of the campus including halls. It also has India's one of fastest super computers ‘Paramshakti’. The laboratories are very advanced and equipped with modern technologies.

My campus life here is excellent. I enjoy being in such a peaceful environment. Our seniors are also very supportive and there is no ragging anywhere in the campus. There are strict regulations regarding ragging. The institute has many clubs and societies for people of various interests. Some of these societies and clubs are coding society, drama society, singing & dancing (break free) societies, Blockchain society, and social service societies. The institute also offers NCC , NSO, NCA, and NSS based on student’s interests. The departments also have their separate departmental societies, which organize various programs every year.
