Life at Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur

Overall Rating
As a premier institute of science and technology, IIT KGP is equipped with the best amenities for studying. All the classes are air conditioned, attached with projector and computer for smart study. We have a hospital and a market inside the campus. 3 banks have their branch inside the campus, along with a few ATMs. Also, sports and recreational facilities are also here.
 

Academics Rating
I entered this course via JAM 2023 exam, this exam is hosted each year by one of the various IITs and IISc Bangalore. One must have a B.Sc or B.Tech in the relevant stream. Students usually join this course to either pursue higher studies or for placements in various financial/data/edtech companies. I personally wish to pursue my Ph.D.
 

Faculty Rating
Most of the faculties are friendly and you can ask them for help about your doubts and such. If needed they may also give you an appointment at their personal office to understand a topic better or simply for other academic discussions. They mostly start from the basics and then reach topics which require higher understanding.
 

Placement Rating
Placement Cell is present and regular sessions/seminars are conducted for the students who will sit in the upcoming placement drive.
 

Hostel Rating
Hostels are equipped with basic amenities, each student receives a bed a chair and a table. Washrooms are ample in quantity. Common geyser outlets and water purifiers are also present.
 

Infrastructure Rating
Infrastructure of all the sections are pretty good, whether it be departmental or central. Each department has individual offices for each teachers, a few classrooms, since all of the classes are held in a separate complex called Nalanda Complex. Bus services are available throughout the campus for classes.
 

Campus Rating
Campus life is pretty vibrant. Be it day or night, you will enjoy your each and every moment here. Sports and recreational facilities are all over the campus, clubs of every interest is present here. You can join your friends in night time and visit canteens and have the best moments of your lives. From Illumination to Spring Fests, students have the best memories of these fests.

    Overall Rating
    IIT Kharagpur is one of the most renowned academic institutes in India. It has NIRF ranking of 5th in engineering category. It is one among the oldest IITs in India which makes it strong alumni network. The lush greenery campus with fresh air, away from city makes students life excellent. I am from IIT Kharagpur and unlike many other IITs, there is no LAN Ban or restriction on data usage and also there is no hostel curfew which is an added bonus.... Read Full Review

  • IIT Kharagpur has Nearly 21 Hostels ('Halls of Residences')

    I was always the topper of my class, but JEE preparation humbled me. But, I dreamt of something and had to achieve that at any cost. I still remember the day when I knew I'll be studying in one of the best Institutions of the country, I was on cloud nine and super excited.     Being from a middle class family I have dreamt about getting into this Institute from Class 11. I didn't get much exposure to Engineering before, so I was very much excited. It is one of the largest campuses having a jungle spread on half of its area. One will not get bored as there many things to do. On every weekend, there are some programs going on at Gymkhana.     I am very happy to have got into IIT KGP. It has got the largest campus among all the IITs; spread around 2200 acres of land. It is one of the top 10 IITs. The course I have chosen here is Industrial and Systems Engineering and it is offered by this Institute alone.... Read Full Review

    The overall experience e here is very good, as we live like a family here and the locals of the residential area inside the campus are very kind and polite. The Academics, Societies, Sports Facilities, extra-curricular everything is excellent here except few things for which you might have to compromise.
