Jyoti Nivas College is a reputed college in Bangalore, and it is an all-girls college. It is an autonomous college. There are both undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the college. Post graduate programs are there in fields of management, science, and commerce. The MBA program of Jyothi Nivas College is associated to the Bangalore University. To get admitted here, you can get the admission form from the college office or get it online. You will have to attend an interview and for MBA you have to qualify through one of the national tests like CET or CMAT. You will have to pay a minimal application fee and it has to be in a DD. They will decide to admit you based on your marks that you got in undergraduate, the eligibility exam, and the personal interview. Jyoti Nivas College Admission process is just like other B-Schools and the facilities too are good enough if not at par with top B-Schools.

I did the MBA course here. They have three electives that you can choose to specialize in and they are finance, HR, and marketing. I chose to specialize in finance. So, there are a total of four semesters, and in your first two you will take the basic management courses like accounting and finance management. In your final two semesters you can choose the electives you want and this depends on the field that you want to get into or are interested in. The elective courses were really specific to the industry, so they were helpful in getting a job and giving me exposure to my field of interest. I can say that I am happy with the academics, and it pushed me to become a better learner.

Coming to the teachers, I would say they were fine. There are about 15-20 teachers for my course. Most of them had their doctorates, but the teaching was just mostly lectures. This was different from my undergraduate because I got to have a lot more discussions and role-play. The teachers here I guess wanted us to be very independent, so a lot of what we had to learn we had to search for ourselves. Most of the teachers are very strict about attendance, and you have to have 75% to attend the exams so keep that in mind.

This college is known for the companies that it gets for placements. Some of them that came for us are Bosch, JC Penney, and Byjus. The average salary for my year of graduation was about 5-6 lakhs per annum. The faculty in charge of the placements also have programs that help us prepare for the interviews. I took advantage of this, and it helped me because I got to know my strengths and weaknesses and the things I needed to work on with my communication. Placement cell of the college is good and makes sure that maximum students get placed.

The college has one hostel, and it is run by the nuns. It can accommodate up to 230 girls. Mostly catholic and Christian students stay here. Many people opt for outside housing, and it is fairly accessible because the college is located in the heart of the city. Jyoti Nivas College Hostel food is average, and this isn’t a problem because there are multiple restaurants in walk able distance of the college. I wish I stayed at the hostel but Christian students are given 1st preference and that is why I had to arrange my living outside the campus.

The college has many facilities that can meet mainly all your needs. Some of them are a huge library, canteen, hostel, fields for sports, a gymnasium, laboratories, and an auditorium for the college events. The library is open every day and you can either just go or take books from there, or if you want you can also sit there and study or do any work. There is Wi-Fi available throughout the college. There are football and basketball courts that you can use whenever you want. We hardly used them though and the courts and the ground were mostly empty. The canteen is just average, but there are multiple vending machines where you can go to get a snack or drink of your choice.

The college was good, but more than that I am happy with the experiences that it provided me with. It is located in the heart of Bangalore, and I got to explore a lot of the city which was nice because I am not originally from Bangalore. I made a lot of friends by joining the extra-curricular activities. The fest that everyone looks forward to is the Scintillation fest that is held every year. Here people from all different colleges throughout the country come to showcase their talents. There are about 25 events and it is so grand that it is even televised. Some of the events that are held are group dance, fashion show, and the fest ends with an epic DJ night. The campus life was great and it’s been 3 years since I passed out but the college life was something that I still miss.
