Just a year more before I graduate and I believe no other college/university can replace the love I hold for Lady Shri Ram College for Women. It was back in school that my passion for studying at Delhi University got me working to secure a seat at this reputed institution. Just like every other university, LSR College has its own quirks. Despite everything, we accept its flaws, learn and move on for the better. It's been a while since I've been to any physical class or even college campus with the spread of COVID-19 Pan-India. Online classes are relatively engaging, not as much as offline classes, with respect to the individual as well as a collective effort by the teaching staff. All in all, Lady Sriram College is known for its prestigious teaching of liberal arts for women, and I highly recommend opting for the college during undergraduate admission.
In terms of the admission process, you need to wait for the cut-off list and calculate your best of 4 percentage. If your preferred course matches with the best of four calculations, you'll be more than welcome to secure your seat. However, always refer to the Delhi University official website for any updated policies, rules and regulations, and upcoming alterations to the admission process. Speaking of the college, it is infamous for its academic faculty undoubtedly. Some of the finest professors, who in fact did their Master's or Ph.D. from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), are hired for the academic curriculum. I've been studying Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. The basic reason for choosing this course: the growing demand for the subject and its career opportunities. The faculty of Sociology is fairly advanced, especially in terms of regular exposure to reality. The individual freedom to choose our assignments and finishing them accordingly has shaped our academic responsibility. Aside from academics, we would get regular suggestions of books, art films, and even research papers from our professors. LSR provides you with the platform to learn persistently, modify your thought process, and acquire substantial knowledge.
On the basis of faculty, not the entire teaching staff stood its expectation. Clearly, some professors taught better than other. However, if you felt under-cleared about the discussed theory, the professors were kind enough to re-explain altogether (both online and offline). Similarly, we have other courses and their esteemed faculty. For instance, AECC and EVS are compulsory for 1st-year students across all courses. For the AECC, the assigned professor would ask for weekly homework, which in turn has polished our interpersonal writing skills.
On the placement front, the college is known to offer one of the highest-ranking packages to its students. LSR placement cell is highly active for candidates interested in internships, campus ambassador programs, or even free master class. They would forward immeasurable opportunities that are available at the time. In most cases, the science and economics department secures the brightest placement offer on the campus. For subjects like philosophy, sociology, and similar social sciences, the chances of securing solid packages by the end of the third year are still uncertain due to the increasing competition among the other course. Further, foreign exchange facilitates the opportunity to travel across the globe and focus on academics without a certificate in return.
LSR hostel is notorious for offering only 1 year of accommodation. The rooms are single and non-AC with an attached washroom. Again, you need to be on the top merit-distance list for securing a seat. My friends raved about the clean yet delicious mess food despite being miles away from home. The strict security allows the students to conform to rules and regulations, especially curfews. All in all, the hostel is definitely preferred if you're strict on budget and high on the merit-distance list.
Lady Shri Ram College campus is fairly big and stretched out. Once you enter the college through the front gate, you will find the main building right in front of you and the new building at the back. Other infrastructures such as auditorium, gazebos, sporting ground, psych terrace, Nescafe hub, and even "Cafe" are located within the campus. We refer to the student canteen as "Cafe" for some unknown reason. The classrooms are well-maintained, clean water supply, regularly cleaned washrooms, and medical support on standby 24/7. If you're someone who prioritizes campus life, LSR has it intact for you.
The overwhelming number of society and clubs are definitely something to look for. Join at least one society of your choice to polish your interpersonal skills and talent. The fest TARANG has its audience from all across Delhi University, even from IIT Delhi. A number of events are organised from Indie band performances, stand-up comedy to the setting up of food stalls, and merchandise. College life on campus is nothing related to your utopian expectations but it definitely shapes you with time. The relationship between freshers and their seniors is highly interactive with zero chances of being ragged, even in the hostel. The overall campus experience adds up to personal growth, defined and developed skill set, and enhanced networking ability.
