Indian Maritime University Kolkata campus previously known as DMET is India’s prestigious marine college known for its quality marine engineers. For admission to this college, the students should have more than 60% in their 12th and must clear the IMU CET entrance exam. The college infrastructure and all the facilities are wonderful which makes the college seek more number of cadets every year. The best thing I love about this college is the uniform and the alumni network. The college placement record is excellent and almost all the cadets get on-campus placements. The college has a huge library and a big swimming pool. There are all the sports available like cricket, football, volleyball, basketball, table tennis, kabaddi, hockey, and badminton. The surroundings are full of greenery which makes the college attractive and fresh.

In IMU Kolkata, the cadets pursue B.Tech Marine Engineering to work as an engine cadets on-board ship. The course contains all the subjects about the marine field and the mechanical field also. The newly introduced syllabus is very vast and tough. The cadets have to do the hard work for the semester exam. The B.Tech course is of 4 years with 8 semesters. There are 2 internals and 1 semester exam with a viva practical exam.

The faculties of the college are mostly the pass outs of the college and are experienced marine engineers. They are very talented and well-experienced in teaching. They teach us in a way that enables us to handle every situation onboard a ship. They are very helpful and give their all to teach us. We can consult them anytime with our problems and doubts. They are available every time for us to solve our doubts. There are enough faculty members for all the subjects and they are so humble.

The Placement record of the college is excellent which is the best part of the college, because this is the only thing for which cadets come to this college. The placement starts from 2nd year onwards and all the clear cadets are eligible to sit for the placement whenever the companies come for recruiting. The companies that come for the placement are Chevron, Pacific Basin, Fleet Management, MSC, and many more. The college placement record is very good and it is mostly due to our strong alumni network.

The college hostel is provided for all the years and is separate for girls. The hostel of college is above average and has all the facilities that a hostel should have. The hostel has its mess where the mess food quality is nice and sometimes average but you can survive. The hostel also has a separate gym and indoor games for all the years. The hostel fees of the college are included in the semester fees. The hostel has indoor games are table tennis, pool, and badminton in 3rd year hostel.

The college infrastructure is quite good and the campus academic block is full of trees. There are two academic buildings where all the classes have AC and there are laboratories & simulator labs, too. The college has 4 separate hostel blocks for each year and separate hostels for female cadets. The college has Asia’s biggest workshop which has all the machines and engines that are used on-board ships. The college has a huge library which has so many books and magazines related to marines. In college, there are so many sports available for which there are facilities like volleyball court, basketball court, badminton court, and a huge field for cricket, hockey, football, and kabaddi. The college has a national-level swimming pool with professional trainers.

Campus life in DMET is full of activities and sports all the time. The cadets won't get bored during their campus life because from morning to night we have a schedule to follow which is very important to survive on the ship. There are many sports and cultural activities organised every 2-3 months. There is a fest called Tempest which is Asia's biggest marine fest, which is organised every year in which many colleges participates. The fest includes sports, cultural competitions, technical competitions, and DJ night. The college has a huge auditorium where all cultural programs are held with huge crowds.
