Jamia Millia Islamia University B.A Review By Arzoo Akram

I am glad to share my experience at the Jamia Millia Islamia. I had an awesome experience, from spending time at Dr. Zakir Husain Library to the central canteen. The well maintained gardens in the campus give a different vibe. I chose this university because of its ranking, as it has been ranked as the third university in the country. It also provides residential facilities.

I have enrolled in the BA/B.Sc (H) Geography. I took admission in this course based on my interest. To get admission in this course, one has to sit in the entrance test conducted by the university. Anyone who has passed class 12th can appear in this test and get admission here. Since, it is a minority institution; the students here are from the Muslim minority community and have reservations here.

The faculty here is very cooperating. Classes are held regularly. All the faculties are Ph.D holders from renowned universities of the country. Majid Hussain, the famous author is the Head of the Department for the Geography Department. Different faculties have different teaching styles. Some prefer doubts in between, while others prefer to answer doubts at the end of the lecture.

Yes, there is placement cell in our university. It helps the students, as the placement cell invites various companies to the campus. A lot of students are placed each year with good packages. In our department, students pursuing Remote Sensing are placed each year.

Hostels in this college are very precious, as not all students get the chance to be accommodated in the hostel. The accommodation charge is affordable. Food provided in the mess is good, that there is no need to spend money outside. The well maintained lawn in the hostel campus adds beauty to our stay. We have an annual function each year in the campus. Monthly, different activities are organised in the hostel for recreational activities like cultural evenings, sports activities, etc. There are reading halls in hostel as well.

The infrastructure in the campus is a mixture of both old and modern architectures. The university has maintained its legacy. There are different gates which houses different faculties and departments. There are around 10-12 faculties and 35 departments. Gate no. 7 and 8 are the busiest places in the campus. The buildings in this campus are a combination of Indian and Islamic architectures.

The campus life is very enjoyable and engaging. There are different clubs and fests organised in the campus. Clubs like the Quiz club, Drama Club, Model United Nations, etc. gives opportunity to excel in their endeavours. Different department organise their own annual fests. Renowned personalities from different universities keep on visiting various departments enriching the knowledge of students. Sitting in Gulistan e Ghalib lawn in gate no. 7 with tea and snacks and discussing different topics is very nice. Students from Kerala organized a fest like Muziris, where they showed their culture.
