Christ University MBA Review By Neeraj Karnani

After appearing for nearly 7-8 entrance, Christ University was satisfied with my score. I was about to give up, but all thanks to Christ that welcomes students from all across the country. In a batch of 120, there were students from 20 states of India for sure, including some NRIs. The best thing about the University is its network of alumni that boasts of professors at top universities, IAS Officers, CEO at many corporate houses. There was some friction between management and faculty. It had led to some questions about the University, and that was the only flaw about the University. Students are always encouraged to join symposiums and join a society of their interest. College is quite flexible with attendance, and therefore ODs were given to students who used to go for society meetings during lectures. Merit and management quota are 2 ways of securing a berth here. You will have to shed some lakhs for the management quota as students are always in the queue to get admissions to Christ. Like many other Bangalore colleges, Christ too has a dress code and even on Saturdays when we were allowed to wear jeans under the blazer any inappropriate clothing means you will have to go and change.

Above average for sure, as academics is not something that is forced upon students. You can do things of your interest along with studies, but studies were indeed a crucial part. If good CGPA are not maintained, it will affect the placements. Many students lacked essential skills as they came through the management quota. The University would bear such students, but the students' drop-out ratio was a little high to some extent. Case studies solving and discussing it in class would help us rectify the mistakes that we made. Overall a nice learning experience, but still, room for improvement is there.

In last few years or so dwindling of faculty is visible. Friction with management is one aspect, while some have moved on for better salaries. Moreover, the location is a little far as MBA college has shifted to Kengeri campus is really far and traveling became an issue for not just students but also faculty. Most of the professors of the School of Business and Management are PhDs. Quite a few of them are busy performing cutting edge research in their department. Most of the faculty were knowledge-driven and helpful. Issues were there, but thumbs up from my side.

The energy beamed as soon as the placement began. Christ is one of the most reputed names in Bangalore, and therefore from start-ups to established films, all were there for the placements. I don't know the exact number, but 100 companies for sure were there. The placement still was not 100% as some students couldn't get the desired CGPA and were rejected in interviews. These days score line and personal skills are mandatory as only the university reputation can't guarantee jobs. This may be the case in IIMs, but having good CGPA's is the only way to get placed in Christ. Placements, on the whole, were decent as the average package was eight lakhs and above.

The residence halls of Christ University were amazing. I never thought I would have this experience, but staying with many students in a hostel has helped me develop as a person. Hostel life made me manage the struggle that one has to face in real life. There are many eateries and cafeterias at the hostel, and the meals were manageable. The residence hall was quite well maintained, but readmission becomes a question mark if not maintained from our end. Therefore, keep your rooms clean and don't smoke or drink in the room as strict action was taken in such cases.

This is one thing where Bangalore colleges stand out. A campus of nearly 80 acres is unimaginable in Delhi. There are four colleges in the Kengeri campus and all departments have their personal buildings. School of business and management had a library hall, 2 computer labs, a discussion room, and a student area to chill and have fun with friends. The campus has two auditoriums, and one of them is an open auditorium. The open auditorium has a seating capacity of over 2000 people. Open spaces of the University need a special mention. From various eateries to four cafeteria's one can manage everything inside the campus. The whole campus is Wi-Fi enabled, and residence halls and college buildings are ICT enabled. The surrounding is serene, and sporting facilities are again something to admire for.

South will always be south, and knowing a bit of local language always helps. Although no faculty and student will ever speak in Hindi or local language, knowing Kannada is beneficial. It was lovely to spend evenings in the quadrangle tables of the canteen and enjoying the lake view. More than anything, MBA is quite hectic, and after a point it does become boring. It wasn't the same with all, but I would still rate my life in Delhi better than that of Bangalore.
