National Institute of Technology B.Tech Review By Omkar Kumar

I got this institute through JOSAA 2022. I am from Bihar and wasn't willing to go out. Also, I was getting CSE branch. That's why I choose this college. The institute administration is quite cooperative and I haven't faced any kind of difficulty here. Overall I had a decent life at the institute.

Our institute offers 7 branches of engineering: Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical and Civil. They also offer seats in architecture. One has to take JEE Mains and score above 98.5 percentile to get admission in normal scenario. In the updated fee structure they have increased the tuition fee to 62000 per semester. However people having income certificate of below Lakh rupees or belonging to SC/ST category get scholarship and have to pay about 5000 for academics per semester.

Professors are dear to all the students except those who want updated lab files. Writing lab files is the biggest challenge because you have at least 3 labs in a week. So you will be writing minimum of 50 pages every week which is useless. Besides these few teachers are having overwhelming teaching skills. One has to learn most of things at his own from YouTube, books or friends.

Companies offer decent packages to students but placement percentage in the core branches are not up to the mark. I am in 3rd year and two companies have already taken coding tests in the institute before the beginning of 5th semester. Till now I don't feel lack of opportunity here. Also our seniors have secured decent packages specifically in the computer science branch.

Students of other states are allotted hostels before the home state students. And students of home town were not allotted hostels but they have built a new campus in bihta where we are going to shift on the 20th of this month (August 2024). Now they have announced that taking hostel is mandatory for every student. Hostel fees have been increased to 35000 per semester which was around 25000 when I got admission. They provided a decent hostel facility where they may adjust you with 5 other peoples in a medium size room and they will, if you are from Bihar. I hope the situation will change from this year onwards.

Now institute has two campuses, one in the main town and another at Bihta. Though we haven't shifted to Bihta yet, we know Bihta campus lacks connectivity. Institute administration have announced that all the students of 1st year and belonging to civil or architecture branch will reside at old campus while others will shift to new campus. New campus is situated on the bank of Ganga ji. NIT Ghat is on walking distance from hostel. I have visited NIT Ghat almost every day in my second year so I have no regrets of shifting to the new campus. New campus is very smaller in area. Entire campus is connected by only one single road which will be almost 500m long.

Overall campus life is awesome. Since institute has smaller area so you may feel higher population density. There are many clubs in our institute which are not going to help you in anyway other than connecting with seniors. The clubs takes only those students who have skills required by clubs. The annual fest of institute is called Corona and Mélange. Though many smaller programs are organised like Eccentrica. Students get a fair opportunity to showcase their talent and improve communication skills.
