First of all it was a dream comes true for me to get into the college after all the hard work I put for the past two years. Believe me it was 100% worth it. The exposure you get and the peer group around you is just fantastic and you will spend the best years of your life in this college.

So, I am a first year undergraduate student and got into the college through JEE Advanced and afterwards the counselling process was done through JOSAA which is completely offline. After coming to the college you should again get your documents verified physically. This was a quite delicate process and even if one step went here and there then you won't be able to get into the college, so when you must do it carefully.

The faculty here is well qualified with many professors having an experience of teaching students in some renowned abroad colleges. Some others have a doctorate from the reputed colleges which makes it very good for a student. If a student is interested in doing some research then professors and heads of departments provide full support. In case of any startup project there will be a huge backup from the college and the alumni.

The placements in our college are quite good. Normally around 80% of the people get placed through CDC which is the on campus organisation that connects students with the companies. The placement cell even provides some foreign internships and jobs due to the immense amount of connections they have around the world. They even conduct some workshops to help the students know about the industry and acquire soft skills which are needed to get placed.

We do have residential facilities in the college itself with 22 hostels in total. There are 15 boys’ hostels and 7 girls; hostels in the campus. The hostels are very large and quite well maintained. I currently live in the Lal Bahadur Shastri hall of residence which is the largest dorm in Asia with a capacity of 2200 boarders. Sometimes due to common bathrooms and not having Air conditioners in hostels, we have to face troubles when it is hot. We do have high speed Wi-Fi across the campus and every student is given a separate LAN port to get high speed internet. There are various recreational activities into which a student can indulge themselves in other than the studies.

The infrastructure here is well maintained and the library here we have is Asia's largest technical library with over 300000 books and many other online resources available. The labs and the classrooms all have world-class infrastructure and have air conditioning systems. The classes have a slide presenter and every student gets a charging port beneath the desk incase if he/she wants to charge their mobile or laptop in the middle of the class.

Overall, the campus life is quite fantastic and making new friends was the best thing to do. We also cycle together across the campus for some refreshment. There are many clubs in the campus like Business club, Encore (English dramatics), 180D consulting, Debating society, western and eastern music society, etc. You name a portfolio and there will be a club for it. Currently there are around 80 active clubs in the campus which is a very large number in itself. We also have two annual fests namely Kshitij and Spring fest which are held in the month of January. They provide a very good platform for students to showcase their talent other than academics in front of large number of people. So, I would say everyone needs to grasp this opportunity and get into IIT Kharagpur.
