Institute of Management Technology PGDM Review By Dhiraj Yadav

I was employed at an IT company and used to take home a nice salary. I was in financial crunch as I was not satisfied with my salary and decided to prepare for the MBA program as all the MBA candidates in my offices were taking home thrice the salary then what I took. At times, my engineering degree felt nothing and one fine day I decided to continue with the job and at the same time prepare for the entrance as well. IMT is next to IIMs and so you can imagine the toughness quotient that is required to get here. Also, the batch size is huge and though all are placed but it becomes difficult to apply to all the companies because they call for interview after taking our academic track record from the college. Poor grade students have to wait for their opportunity but even they get placed. For me it was magical as along with my grades my work experience also counted and at the end it was on me to choose from the three companies that chose me.

Classrooms were there in place for fun as more than half the time, we would have lectures elsewhere or we were taken out for visits. If that wasn’t enough, we would have competitions inside the campus and then the teams were formed to represent the college at many prestigious events like Tata Crucible Business Quiz, Jio Convention Centre and others. College sent us everywhere on their own expenses but if you lose means you have lost your chance for various other competitions too. Winning was everything that matters and because of those academics became more of a competition. My work experience helped as I could survive but some students choked or succumbed to the pressure.

Faculties were good but the same faculty would take lectures for all the four sections of the college. They were more energetic than the students and managed to do so and hats off to them for that. Their presence itself was enough as they all had wealthy knowledge and experience of teaching for more than 10 years. Some of them were scary as they never let the students have a single day of breather because even after meals at night, we had to be at our desk to finish the assignments. To all the faculties of IMTG, please show some mercy on students.

College’s placement cell decides the order in which the students can go. We can send our choices but then it has to match with the requirements of the recruiters. It was a week-long process before the placement started during the last semester. A month-long internship from the college at some of the top corporate houses already interested some of the recruiters who just came and handed the students their offer letters. BYJU's during our batch was the hero. They took around 30 students and were ready to shell out over 20 lakhs to them. I wish I could have impressed them but congratulations to those who made it there. Other than BYJUs, HDFC Bank, HSBC Bank, and Yes Bank hired maximum students from Finance batch. I got placed in one of these banks and will say than even my pay cheque has taken a huge uproar from my last salary that I received.

A boy’s hostel with a capacity of around 400 students was operational during our time. The hostel had ACs in each room and geezers as winters are too strong in Ghaziabad. Hostel mess provided us meals timely and though the food to me was repetitive, it was still better than the previous hostel of mine. Hostel was meant for fun but because our assignments never got completed the modern recreation room of the hostel was mostly empty. Getting out of the hostel at will was little difficult but manageable. Thanks to some of our local friends who managed the way out for us when badly needed.

Infrastructure was outstanding as the 14-acre area may not be that big but one has to see what’s in those 14 acres of land. Too many trees that were certainly not required but garden besides the admin block was refreshing. It was our afternoon bedroom as during the one-hour lunch break students literally use to sleep in that garden. Classrooms were ICT enabled and your attendance was directly taken with that. As soon as you leave the class it is all registered and if you haven’t come back for the next class, you are automatically marked absent. IMT has made best use of the technology as CISCO has developed all the devices in the campus that is Wi-Fi enabled and we all enjoyed nice and seaming internet speed all throughout. The IT lab had the brand new PCs and were loaded with all the latest software.

Life at IMT was magical because staying in a crowd that is among the most intelligent students of the country was an entirely new experience. Students from various background and cultures mingled together and celebrated all the events and festivals like they belong to one happy family.
