Institute of Management Technology PGDM Review By Vedant Shamra

IMTG is one of the top-rated colleges in the country and are next to IIMs in many regards. I had a nice percentile and I could have got any college that accepts CAT score but among all the colleges, IMTG was probably the best and as soon as I got the call letter, I immediately paid the fees and booked myself for 2 precious years of my life. I said booked myself because one doesn’t really feel the need of getting out of the campus unnecessarily. The food provided was great, facilities at the campus were great and campus had all the infrastructure to make sure students focus maximum time at the studies. Look in B-Schools; one has to be aggressive because there’s nothing called fixed time. Lecture timings from morning were fixed but evenings were decided as per the schedule. The best about the institute was that it wasn’t biased and there 30% girls at the campus which was surprising. However, there wasn’t any partiality as everyone had to fight for their place and be it a guy or a girl, only the ones who fought rose above the others.

Timings were not enough that every day, we were reminded about the deadline of our assignments. In case, you miss the deadline, you are dead. Professors would not shy away from shouting at the students and one such insult will make sure that you will enjoy sleepless nights but definitely not attending the classes without adhering the deadlines. In a way it was a time management learning as it wasn’t that we didn’t had time to do things we love. However, managing the time wisely was the key as there was no binge watching at the campus like we used to do at our UG campus.

Faculty made students and students represent the institute for always. Thus, the roots are faculty and like every other top B-School, IMTG too realises that and has made sure that they have the best faculty to their fore. Faculty became friends in due course and it was easy to put shoulder around their arms and chit chat with them just like we did with students of the institute. The friendship though never helped in extending the deadlines as friendship was beyond college schedule. I will be honest as I made them friends to have some advantage but couldn’t get any.

Placements were fierce as there was a fierce competition within the group. Friends turned foes as no one told each other in which all companies are they applying. All the applicants got confirmation on the notice board and like many others I too had 2 offers to choose from. There was a huge pay gap between both the parties and that made my choice easier because larger the pay, larger the greed. Investment Banking was relatively new then but IMTG has invited many companies that even sent some of the students to abroad for training and I was one of those. Company name can’t be disclosed or else would have shared a little more insight. Nevertheless, though the placements were great and some of the companies were same that came for UG placements at Graphic Era University and offered 1/5th of the salary that PGDM students were offered. That’s the difference between BBA and MBA.

There was a hostel inside and was small but lucky ones got the hostel which was inside the campus while some were sent to college’s other hostel that was outside the campus. There was no timing issue as the college gate would close by 10.30 and we were free to roam inside the campus as long as we wanted. Hostel had the best possible rooms and probably the best Wi-Fi network that I have enjoyed. CISCO has modernized college’s IT solution and their work need no further mention.

One of the most advanced campuses that you will see is of IMTG. Definitely not as big but because it has just 3 courses and has to take care of just 600 odd students the facilities and infrastructure was more than sufficient. The entire campus was Wi-Fi enabled. We could go to library or activity hall for completing our assignments as there was no restriction for students other than the staff room area. The main block is beautiful outside and the most developed inside.

For two years we just had around 40 days of holidays and a month of summer internship. Rest of all the times was spent at the campus and it was like as if we are already working in a corporate office. The institute made us future ready at its own campus and therefore there’s nothing that I can’t survive today because college has put us in situations where we have seen highest of highs and lowest of lows.
