Institute of Management Technology PGDM Review By Neeteesh Yadav

'IMT Ghaziabad' which once was among the top-20 B-Schools of India, has now slid to top-50. In our times, the only problem that I had was the batch size. But because at Alumnus Meet, we are invited, and from my last visit observations what I have seen here is that Institute can't change. Second, the batch size for a B-School intake of over 500 students is quite heavy to manage. The last somewhat laid culture that exists here has led to its downfall somewhat. I will share my point of view when it was among the top-20 and was in the top-20 for many reasons. Top CAT aggregates are required to get admissions here. The GD round was tough as even 3000+ candidates passed through that, nearly 20 times those that appeared for that round. The PI round was even tougher as in percentage terms, the student's conversion from GD to PI was high, but top analysts were called upon for the interviews. Last but not the least, the thing that makes a B-School sought after is placements, and around 450 from a batch of 500 were placed through campus.

Students were nurtured right from the start and IMT was meant for students of engineering backgrounds. Yes, we had to attend a few extra classes than the students of commerce background to understand finance and economics. For the first time in my life, I came to know that we get to study as many case studies as we want and we had the option of choosing them on our own. For this part, I give College a 10 on 10. It's not because I work for Tata, I am promoting them but College provided me with enough material on my research and a case study on Tata Group made me get going throughout as it was my first case study at the Institute and I never looked back post that.

I chose the wrong subject as marketing was way beyond my innate talent. The faculties nurtured me like a baby and made me get through one of the toughest parts of my academic life with ease. There were moments when I was about to quit, but it was the faculty who made their shoulders available and their short arms up whenever I was in need. The faculty job here was easy as guest faculty were invited often, and they simplified things even better for us.

The placement cell of IMT is one of the best. With the responsibility of placing such a huge batch size, it becomes impossible for anyone to have student's quality placements. Mahindra Group, Tata Group, and many government companies like HAL, NOCIL, and Hindustan Copper have been the prime partners of College in it. Placements during our batch became headlines as 5 years down the line students getting placed with dream packages from here was a normal thing. 90% of the students placed through campus and the remaining were helped to get off-campus placements.

There was one boys and one girls hostel at the campus. The hostels had the best possible rooms ever. The rooms with air-conditioning and a solid workforce to keep the rooms clean. There was laundry service available as students were allowed to give 20 clothes in a month. Beyond that, a certain charge was levied. Well, the economics of IMT hostels were such that one could have afforded better facilities than hostels off-campus, but it was compulsory to stay at the hostels. The food provided was great as we were provided milk, tea, coffee, twice a day and also seasonal fruits every single day. Lunches and dinners, too, had enough variety to ensure that students didn't go out for meals.

The campus is not as big as the IMT group has three campuses in all, and the IMT campus was the smallest of them all. IMT offers a couple of courses and that was one of the reasons for a smaller campus, but no arguments or critical analysis on the kind of facilities that were provided. Everything was digital and for the first time, I came across such huge elevators that could accommodate 15 people at a time. There were a couple of refreshment stalls in the main building along with an operational canteen. No major sporting facilities apart from a basketball and a volleyball court.

If one has to enjoy an extravagant life, then the IMT Ghaziabad campus is the one. Institute's annual fest Passion, which has been carried on since its start has become bigger and better with time. It was a two-day program, but since 2014, the voyage has been added a day extra. Apart from cultural activities, myriad corporate activities took place at the fest and the best part was that students were asked to lead the fest. Anybody could raise their hand and join the fun as managing an event too is a part of distinguished learning at IMT Ghaziabad campus.
