St. Xavier's College Kolkata: Affordable Fees with Scholarship Opportunities

I recently joined St. Xavier's College in July 2024 and the campus is quite big with ample opportunities present including curricular as well as co-curricular. The placement opportunities offered by this college is top notch and people generally choose this college for a large number of placement opportunities present, provided you do good in your college life and I feel students at certain point demand good placements only. So if you are the one who wants to get placed in good companies St. Xavier's College is a must go college. I had other options too but what differentiate St. Xavier's College from these all colleges are the brand value and the alumni of this college.

The course chosen by me was B.Com (Hons.) and I basically chose it because I wish to pursue Chartered Accountancy. In order to enter this college first of all having Math in your +2 is a mandate. Anyone without Math will not be allowed to even fill the admission form, secondly a candidate should secure above 90-92% in their boards with Math as the major one which means that including Math you should secure above 90-92% in order to get placed in the first list. Only if you are lucky you can get admission by 89% but in the third list only. Semester Exams are held twice once in December and the second one in May or June. There are internal assessment exams twice which is of 40 marks.

The fees of B.Com (Hons.) Generally ranges from Rs. 1,00,000 – Rs. 1,20,000 for a year that you have to pay in installments. Basically once you join St. Xavier's College and the rest in an interval period of 2 months. For the Christian students and the lower middle class, concessions are there and since I belong to the general category I don't have a proper idea of the amount of concession provided. There are scholarship facilities present where nearly half of the fees are borne by the college. Yes, if you are a scholar and too lucky you might get the full scholarship so it depends totally on you.

The faculty members are somewhat average. I would rate their way of teaching as good but yes it could get better. they try their level best to make the students understand the concept. But somewhere it lacks a little because of which I am rating the faculties average. Basically every modern method is adopted by the teachers be it blackboards, ppts or group discussions so that students understand the concepts properly. Generally if a student has doubt and wants to approach the teacher they are readily available and you all just have to inform them basically a day before so that they allot a time where they could take your doubts and explain you properly.

There is a placement cell present in the St. Xavier's College. They provide regular updates and even internship opportunities are provided once in every week and students from all years are allowed to enroll. The placement cell is the most active group and they will never disappoint you regarding the placement.

I don't know much about the hostel as I reside in my relative's house but what I came to know from my friends are that the hostel has strict policies and students are not allowed to go out. Basically the rules are very strict. The food provided to the hostellers is not up to the mark.

Since St. Xavier's College is built around 100 years ago. Therefore, the aesthetics of the college somewhat are parallel to good old days. There are four staircases and four floors as well with around 60 rooms. One thing which can disappoint the students is that we don't have air conditioners in our college. Particularly speaking you will find some in few classes provided you are lucky but maximum classes have no air conditioners and in a place like Kolkata where the summers are up to the top it becomes very difficult to cope up at that time. Though the halls and other places have AC but the classes don't have. One more thing the library is so well equipped that you will find all the books there and it is as big as an apartment I swear that's my favorite go to place.

The campus life overall is good students will find good friends and people are very friendly here. There is no case of bullying between the seniors and juniors but in the contrary the seniors are more concerned about their juniors and involve them in all the events. We have an annual fest named Xavotsav which is a must go to event other than that we have events held by the different societies present almost every day except the exam days. Concluding I would like to say a person who wants to have a good brand value and be disciplined St. Xavier's College is a go to college.
