Campus Facilities of SXC Kolkata: Library, Halls, & Grounds

Although the campus of SXC Kolkata (Autonomous) may appear to be small at first, you will soon realize it has good amenities. Personally, I chose this college due to the quality of teaching, the ethics imparted to the students, the networking opportunities it will provide you with, and the opportunities you will be exposed to once you are in this college. This college has one of best faculties for Economics all over India, especially for Undergraduate.

I am currently studying B.Sc Economics (Hons.). Under the NEP curriculum, which is being followed by this college, it is a 4 years course. I chose Economics as I had a strong interest in this subject from school days. This institute accepts board marks. In order to be accepted, you must have Maths as one of your subjects and you are required to obtain a high score in it. You also need to have an overall high aggregate (preferably about 95%). The college rolls out its admission forms soon after board marks are announced, and a list comes out declaring the students who have made it in. There are reservations for Christian students, students who belong to SC/ ST/OBC background. The economics course has 2 semesters- each semester having 2 sets of exams: CIAs and Endues. The course material is based on real life examples and teachers ensure that you are trained for real life challenges.

The fees for each semester ranged between Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 40.000. For odd semesters, it is higher than the even semesters. Your exam and tuitions fee is included in the fees payment that you make each semester. There are scholarships and financial aid is available.

The Economics department has highly knowledgeable professors. Each professor possesses a PhD from reputable institutions. The professors are well versed with their knowledge in economics and very approachable. The mode of instruction is in English, but the professors do not hesitate to communicate in Hindi or Bengali, if any problem arises primarily. There is a mix in the usage of blackboards, whiteboards, and PPTs when it comes to teaching- it mostly depends on what is being taught.

There is a placement cell in SXC Kolkata, which regularly updates all students about internship and job opportunities through broadcasted messages.

There are five buildings on the campus, which are available for usage by the students. One building has a church on the ground floor, and the floors above have Air-conditioned Computer Labs. That building is connected with the main building, which has 4 floors. Rooms range from gallery classrooms to regular classrooms. Some classrooms have AC while some do not. Another building is the Depelchin auditorium, the main auditorium of the college. The other building is where the Multimedia students study. Then there is the college library, beyond the college field. The college field is shared with the school students. There are many halls in our college (around four or five). There is also a basketball, badminton court, and a shaded area known as the gymnasium. The college also has a wellness centre but students mostly do not use it. There is a canteen with good food. Most students hang out either in the TT room or the green benches. There is also a girl’s exclusive room known as the common room where there is also a bed for girls to take rest if they are unwell.

The overall campus life is great at St. Xavier’s. You will meet a diverse crowd who are all talented each in their own way. There are plenty of clubs (known as societies) in this college. Some of the popular cultural clubs are Fine Arts Society, XADAM, and Xaverian Debating Society. There is also NSS and NCC if you are interested to do social work. Among business clubs, the most popular ones are Xavier’s Commerce Society, Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC), The Marketing Society, and so on. We also have an E-Sports Club. Each society is active. There is an event happening almost every alternate day. There are also many conferences, which take place in college, and many speakers are invited. Students are provided with the opportunity to learn from them and interact with them. The main fest of our college is ‘Xavotsav’, which takes place towards the end of January or beginning of February each year. We have amazing events and famous celebrities come to our event each year. Xavier’s Kolkata is an amazing place to be at.
