Overall Rating
I am a first year student (batch 2024-28) from Karur, near Salem. This college has great liberty for students who get average to high marks. If you are a local in Salem, this college is a wonderful option as it is number 1 in Salem (private). Scoring 30/50 in monthly exams is decent enough for teachers. Having a good reputation and placements is a plus point. If these are the factors you look for then this college is worth visiting. Also, there are students from Nepal with special benefits which I rarely find in any other college / institute / university.
 

Academics Rating
I chose Mechatronics because it is an interdisciplinary course which exactly meets my interest. Although, reality might be different so be careful before you choose any course. I want to be Robotics engineer and requirement for this college is that you need 140 cut off for Mechatronics. The admission process includes counselling and you can visit Sona website for more details. Coming to exams, one semester is nearly of 5 months. One CI exam is conducted every month whose marks are added in internal marks. Mechatronics course has many subjects which allow us to use tools like Matlab and Python used in many sectors.
Fees structure for every department is Rs. 1,25,000 per annum and Rs. 3,000 for admission. AICE and BC scholarships are provided as well.
 

Faculty Rating
The faculty is average. Some teachers are strict but others are very jolly in nature. Regular interaction between teacher and students in class should be increased. Most of the teachers are PhD graduate and good problem solvers. Use of Smart boards and PPTs are a plus point in lab for subjects like Engineering Mechanics: Statics and Dynamics. One teacher is opted as mentor for 62 students but for subjects like ELMS, one teacher mentors 32 students.
 

Placement Rating
The placement cell is pretty good. Basic package is around 4.5 Lakh per year but core companies provide 10 Lakh per year. Proper training is also provided for placement. JSW and COSCO are some renowned companies. Sona College promotes Japanese placement as well.
 

Hostel Rating
Yes, they have hostel. There are around 200 rooms. Room can accommodate up to 3, 6 and 8 students as well. Boys’ and Girls’ hostel are separate. Mess provides unlimited Veg food which is average. Fees for rooms vary between Rs. 87,000 to Rs. 1,00,000. The hostel timing for food is 8 AM to 9 AM for breakfast, 1 PM to 2 PM for lunch, 5 PM to 6 PM for snacks, and 7 PM to 8 PM for dinner. I would rate hostel 3 out of 5.
 

Infrastructure Rating
There are 6 to 7 blocks in the college. For sports, one ground, one cricket ground, gym, swimming pool and shuttle court are there which are average in size. There are two canteens but snacks are costly. There is a seminar hall, few labs, one library, and one internet library. My favorite place is digital library where I spend my time usefully. There is a medical centre and transport facility as well.
 

Campus Rating
My overall campus life is average. The college has fun some days but boring the other days. It is all about your own motivation. The college is super crowded as well. There are many clubs and activities. Events and Fests are also conducted. Make your time useful and worth.

    I was very much interested to join this college for Mechatronics Engineering course. I'm fond of Mechatronics and Electronics, and this particular college has a great environment to study those subjects.     This institution has very knowledgeable professors and teachers. They are very kind except some teachers. The college gives you full freedom that you can go outside for important works and this college canteen has some excellent snacks for the students. This institution is best for students who prefer to stay in Salem and pursue a degree and it has some excellent placements as well. This college has excellent and friendly teachers.     The experience in Sona College of Technology Salem is quite nice. I joined this university in 2024 by 12th marks. I thought joining this college is hard but it is quite simple. I suggest my junior to join this college for the Infrastructure and many things I appreciate this college for the teaching qualities of teachers and friendly attitude of them.
