Honest Perspective on the Punjab Engineering College Chandigarh

Overall Rating
Punjab Engineering College Chandigarh is a reputed College located in Sector 12, Chandigarh. It is operating from the past 100 years which offers a strong academic base and Alumni network. I have been studying here from the past 3 years and it has helped me grow a lot in different aspects and is still helping me improve as an individual.
 

Academics Rating
I am in the Computer Science and Engineering branch and the course curriculum has all the required subjects and the teachers to teach them very well. But you can't rely completely on the classes and coursework. You need to self-study and explore the options you want to pursue. You need to give JEE Main exam for admission and secure the required percentile for admission. The admission process is simple and can be completed in one visit. The exams are conducted twice a semester with quizzes and Lab viva conducted throughout the semester.
The total fee is around Rs. 8,00,000/- for 4 years which excludes the Hostel fees. Basically, each semester costs around Rs. 94,000/-. You may be eligible for several scholarships like merit-based and several other quotas. There are Financial Aids for BPL students as well.
 

Faculty Rating
There are a lot of faculty members and each has the specialisation in broad domains. All teachers come from reputed Colleges and have high expertise in their subjects. The teachers are supportive and teach well. You can go for doubt-solving and even pursue project work with the professors which can help students a lot later during the placements and off-campus opportunities. Although, there can be some teachers who may turn down the expectations but that does not hinder the growth of the students. You should be capable of doing things on your own.
 

Placement Rating
There is a dedicated Placement Cell at PEC Chandigarh called the Career Development and Guidance Centre (CDGC) which is responsible for the placements and internships of all the students who wish to start their careers. They invite the companies to the campus, conduct tests, arrange interviews, and maintain all records. Basically, they act as a medium of communication between the students and the hiring companies.
 

Hostel Rating
There are 6 hostels at our College including 4 for the boys and 2 for the girls. If you want to stay at the hostel, you need to pay Rs. 80,000/- and the mess fee is around Rs. 3000/- to Rs. 4000/- per month. You can even apply for rebates when you are not in the hostels. I would say that the hostel rooms are quite old and facilities need a lot of improvement and renovation. Hostel rules are defined and strict. The gates close around 9:30 PM and you can take permission to go outside prior from the Warden.
 

Infrastructure Rating
The infrastructure at Punjab Engineering College Chandigarh is above average. The campus spreads across 149 acres of land. There are many departments and all have required facilities and Labs for the students. There is a huge Library and Reading Halls. All the books are available in the Library and you can issue them easily. There is a Market which has all the shops required including Food, Stationery, Barber, etc. There’s also a Helicopter Shell at the entrance and a Train Engine that enhances the beauty of the College.
 

Campus Rating
The campus life is good and you have a lot of things to do. There are specific Playgrounds for all the Sports and you can enjoy the evenings there. There are many Clubs including both technical and cultural Clubs that keep you busy throughout the year. There are a lot of engagement activities like Club events, religious events, and the main highlight of the year, ‘PECFEST’ which is an annual 3-day fest organised in our College with many events and star nights.

    Punjab Engineering College is a well known and very reputed college. College provides very good placement opportunities and internship opportunities. But, the campus itself does not have modern infrastructure and classes are not air conditioned.   • Career Prospects and Placements at Punjab Engineering College

    It has been a good experience till now in Punjab Engineering College. I am currently pursuing my UG from Computer Science Engineering from here. I joined this college due its high placements and internship opportunities. It’s a government funded technical institution. The institute is around 100 years old.     The college has a great location and past. It is located in Chandigarh which provides a beautiful surrounding and atmosphere. Being a JEE student, You would always like to have a good college to complete your B.Tech degree. PEC, Chandigarh is considered better than even many NIT's and IIT's which made me choose this college.     The college overall is great. The infrastructure is okay but the environment is good and there is literally zero ragging. The senior junior interaction here is very good and professors are very dedicated towards their work. The college gives a very happy kind of a vibe. The hostels are not that great but it is not about place it is about people; friends here are very helpful and chill.
