The VELS University or VELS Institute of Science, Technology & Advanced Studies (VISTAS), Chennai has modern infrastructure and built various blocks for academic, administrative, and other purposes. The University has also designed some of the facilities for the differently abled students.
The VELS University campus is developed on around 29.8 acres of land and has a built up area of approximately 1,15,171 square meters. Adequate amenities are available at VELS University Chennai such as Wi-Fi, library, smart classrooms, auditoriums, conference halls, cafeterias, sports amenities, transportation, etc.
VISTAS Chennai provides several facilities for the students for their academic and personal growth. The VELS University campus has more than 342 spacious classrooms with both traditional & smart teaching facilities. The smart classrooms are equipped with modern technologies like LCD, overhead projectors, lecture capturing system, etc. to enhance the learning experience of the students.
To organise educational & cultural programs, more than 4 AC auditoriums with different seating capacities starting from around 200 to 1500 are available at the campus. In addition, there is an open-air auditorium named ‘The Velan Arangam’ available with a seating space of approximately 15,000 students.
Moreover, 12 seminar & conference halls (6 for each) are there with the latest audio-visual equipment and other ICT facilities. Moreover, the University has designed some of the facilities as per the needs of the differently abled students such as ramps, wheelchairs assistance, unique washrooms, etc.

- Library: The University has a fully-fledged & automated central library which has more than 1,43,940+ books, 15,960+ back volumes, 12,530+ e-journals, 2,06,530+ e-books, 5300+ thesis / dissertations, and many more.
Moreover, around 50 systems are available within the library of the VELS University where students can access the e-resources through the online portal. At the library, students also get reprographic, reference, lending, and various other facilities.
- Laboratories: At the University, around 2800 computers and laptops are available for educational and research work. To provide practical exposure to the students in their chosen streams, more than 170 laboratories are available at the University including Language Lab, Multimedia Lab, Animation Lab, Artificial Intelligence Research Lab, etc.
- Sports: Several courts and playgrounds are available within the VELS University campus for the games such as Badminton, Throwball, Volleyball, Cricket, Hockey, Kabaddi, Ball Badminton, Football, etc.
Moreover, the University has a recreation room with adequate indoor games facilities. The ‘VELS Sports Academy’ encourages students to participate in intra & inter-collegiate competitions.
- Hostels: Separate hostel facilities are available for both boys’ and girls’. Approximately 1000 students can be accommodated at VELS University Hostel. Both AC & Non-AC rooms options are available for students. Moreover, several facilities like mess/ dining hall, medical attendant, laundry, sports, and many others are available for hostellers.
- Cafeteria: Around 3 cafeterias namely ‘Spice Kitchen’, ‘Kaassi Bhavan’, and ‘Jeevan Sandwich’ are there at the University’s campus. All these cafeterias provide nutritious & quality food options to the students as per their taste and preferences. Moreover, these cafeterias operate on different timings between 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
- Transportation: The University has more than 150 buses which operate on different routes of the city to provide a safe and easy commute to the students.
- Medical Facilities: At VELS University campus, approximately 4 health centers are there to provide medical assistance to the students. Moreover, the University has a free clinic facility & has a VELS Hospital which provides specialised care to the students.
- Gymnasium: There is a modern gymnasium & fitness centre available within the campus with adequate equipment & machines to ensure that students remain fit and healthy.
- Banking: To provide banking facility to the students, ATM service is available within the University’s campus.
