Christ University M.Com Review By Ginu George

I was fortunate to be part of the institution when it got the University status in 2008. The first and the foremost thing which I liked and always like was the greenery in campus and how well it is maintained. The campus is spread across 50 acres and it is known for its greenery. The University supports and works towards segregation of waste. The campus also has a separate unit which takes care of recycling of waste and also have a printing unit which makes files with recycled papers. The University has various undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes in field of commerce, management, engineering, social sciences, sciences and humanities.

The University has collaboration with many foreign universities and gives both students and teachers to go for an exchange program. Christ Deemed University admission process is systematic, organised and transparent. All the information regarding the admission dates, admission process, admission status and the course details are made available online for easy access of the students. Management of the University are approachable and they are prompt in replying to admission or any other related queries. They can be reached through phone/email/direct.

After completing B.Com from Mount Carmel College, the course I have taken was M.Com and I was fortunate to be part of the first batch. The course was started in 2008 and the students are selected based on their degree marks and personal interview. There is no entrance exam for this course. The reason for joining this course because of its uniqueness which is 30 hours of teaching internship. The students get an opportunity to take classes on various commerce related subjects for B.Com students. The course gave me a different learning opportunity which was more than my expectation. This course trains the students in such a way that the students get an opportunity to work both in corporate and academics as a lecturer.

The department as around forty-nine faculties with an average of seven years of teaching experience. The University has five campuses across India with strength of over 2000+ faculties. The faculties have an average year of experience of more than 7 years and around 95% of the faculties have doctorate. All the faculties are involved in various research related activities like corporate linked research, government sponsored research and have published papers in various reputed journals and have presented in multiple conferences.

Faculties teaching skills are extremely well and have in depth subject knowledge. They are all well knowledgeable in their respective subjects and are able to teach students exceptionally well. To mention few of well-experienced faculties are Dr Tomy KK, Dr Nithila Vincent, Dr Uma who are excellent and favourite teachers of many students.

The University has a Centre for placement and career guidance which exclusively takes care of placements. The students also provided with various training programs and career guidance for students. We are given training on presentation, mock interviews and industry talks which has immensely helped us in getting prepared for various kinds of job interviews. It has also helped us to perform and face the interview more confidently.

Some of the companies which came placements while I was studying were Goldman Sachs, Thomson Reuters, Deloitte, KPMG, Ernst & Young, PwC and many more. The highest package was provided by Goldman Sachs with a highest package of Rs. 9,00,000 PA. All the students were placed either in corporate or colleges with an average salary of Rs. 6,00,000 PA. One of highlight of the institution is all the students were 100% placed by end of semester.

Christ University has eight hostels out of which five are for the Hosur road campus. The hostels are available for both males and female. The Jonas Hall hostel is for females and Christ Hostel -Block A, B, C, St. Kuriakose Elias Hall and CST Vidyabhavan are meant for males. The hostels are seprate for both men and women and hence the parents can be assured of the safety and security of the students.

On an average the hostel fee for a student comes between Rs. 45,000-50,000 PA. There is 24*7 security for all the hostels and there are also wardens available across all the hostels. The hostel approximately has 30 rooms with single, twin sharing, triple sharing. Students can choose based on the availability and comfort. From the cleanliness and food provided are of healthy and quality food. Hence students and parents need not have to be concerned about the same.

All the campuses are well equipped with LCD projector and speaker. This makes the session more interesting for us. All the blocks have been constructed keeping in mind the safety and security of the students. The classrooms have podium with mic hence what teachers teach were clear and audible. Without a doubt these infrastructure support made all the classes very interesting and interactive. Yet another interesting place in the campus is the University library. We have two libraries one is called old library and another one is called as the knowledge centre. We are allowed to go anytime during the working hours and pick a book of our interest and read. We also have the facility to check in system which is placed in the library or through online library catalogue about the availability of books and its location.

The knowledge centre also has lot of space with good ventilation were we are allowed to prepare and study. Most of the students like about the variety of cafeteria that is available. We have more than 10 cafeterias and have wide range of food from snacks to meals. Most of the students love to hang around in cafeteria during the free hours. The food provided is of high quality and at affordable rate. The students also have other facilities like counselors and medical facilities. In case of emergency, they can reach out to them. We also have sick room in all the blocks so in case of a student is unwell he/she can go and take rest in the sick room.

The University is always vibrant across the year with various fests and cultural activities. There are different programs that is been held by departments. The students are always busy with these interesting programs and fest which also gives them an immense learning opportunity. Some of the important highlight of the University is Blossoms an inter-collegiate fest, Darpan- a dance program and Ethnic day.

These are three most memorable and most awaited cultural fest by students every year. Most of the students make use of this opportunity as it one of the platforms for students to showcase their talents. Apart from these each department also have many programs throughout the year.
