R.V. College of Engineering B.Tech Review By Dev Rishi Verma

RV College of Engineering is the place where I did my graduation from. I took the bachelors of engineering course there. I got admitted through the management quota, and for this we had to have a score of at least 60% in the subjects of math and physics. Nowadays, the college also requires that students who apply also need to mandatorily write the JEE or CET exam. The college is actually an autonomous one, but it is affiliated to the VTU University which is also in Bangalore. I’m happy that I got a seat in this college, because it is considered as one of the best engineering college in Bangalore and even the entire country.

The course that I took is the Computer Science and Engineering. It definitely challenged me, mostly because I wasn’t used to the rigorous pace that the course required. I actually was not sure which course of engineering I wanted to get into, but I joined this one because I heard from teachers and family that it had a really good scope. I liked the course a lot and ended up doing masters in it as well. I wrote the JEE exam to get into this course, and I had 85% percent in science and math in my tenth standard, and got 89% in my 12 standard. The subjects were quite tough especially in the few final semesters, but I’m happy that this course got me used to the fast-paced schedule. This helped me when I did my masters.

Most of the teachers in my department are very experienced, and have been at this college for 15 plus years. The Computer Science and Engineering department is one of the most prestigious ones in this college, and I can say this is definitely because of the teachers. During our first few semesters, the teachers really helped us build our core. My favorite subjects were Big Data Analytics and Cloud Computing, and this was all thanks to the teachers. They made it interactive, and a lot of the classes were just discussions and seminars among the students. This helped us practically apply our knowledge right from the start.

RVCE Bangalore has a really good placement rate, and during my year about 88% of the undergraduates got placed. I can say that this was probably due to the training that the college gave us before interviews. From my third semester itself we got to have exposure to interviews. These were conducted by our own faculty and they would give us like a mock interview experience. We could ask our teachers for feedback, and then work on what we had to improve. The average package that people got was about Rs. 11 lakhs, and the highest that was bagged by my own friend was Rs. 44 lakhs in Microsoft. Some other companies that came are Yahoo and Amazon.

Being a hostelite for 3 years, I definitely know the hostel experience here inside and out. So, there are a total of 4 hostels, and these are basically divided amongst the students based on the year they are. Three of them are for the undergraduate students, and one is only for the postgraduate students. All of the hostels have one mess, and it serves veg food. This was okay for me because I am a vegetarian, but my friends who ate non-veg were fine too because there are many food options like cafes surrounding the college. All of the hostels have access to a gym to work out and there is also Wi-Fi provided. I suggest asking some seniors what rooms have the best Wi-Fi connectivity when you go to check out the college and hostel. The life at the hostel was awesome and like many I am blessed to have been a part of such a great hostel life.

Coming to the infrastructure, I have to mention the canteen. It is so huge. Actually, there is one main canteen and also one small one. Here you can get all kinds of foods like from burgers to fries to samosa and chaats. Apart from this, there is a medical centre that is situated in the middle of campus. Here, you can go for all your health needs. There is also an ambulance there 24/7 in case of any emergencies. Also, RV college has fields for various sports like football, cricket, and also several basketball courts. The college also has CCTV cameras to monitor student’s activities.

I am really thankful that I chose to go this college. I got to be involved in a lot of activities apart from my course here. I was on the cricket team, and also the Ashwa Racing Team. Yes, that’s right! We actually had a racing team. Students from any undergraduate program can be part of this team and help to engineer race cars while also keeping the environment in mind. Other than this, there are many extra-curricular clubs you can join here like the Robotics Club or the Coding Club. All of the clubs have their own competitions, and most of them even have national and international level competitions.
