Mithibai College of Arts BJMC Review By Tanzi Shaikh

Mithibai College of Arts is an institute for overall growth. The institution wherein an individual will enter as a timid student but will come out as a confident individual. I did my Bachelor's of Mass Media from Mithibai college in the year 2019. The learning environment of the campus shall inbuild learning and progressive outlook towards various issues that we face in our student's lives. The 2 years that I spent in this college changed my personality altogether and helped me molding into a confident-individual. The college conducts various activities, fests, seminars, workshops, assignments field visits, external educators for a better understanding of the industry out there. The college has a practical outlook when it comes to learning. The admission process is simpler but as being one of the top education institutes in the city, the Cut-offs is pretty high. So one must score well in 10th or 12th in order to get admissions in the college. Overall the experience of spending two years in the college was fabulous with many life-long lessons.

I joined the college in the year 2017, for my second year of Bachelors of Mass Media (BMM). The reason why I joined in between and changed my previous college because as I already described, being a premium institute the cut-offs are high and I got 75% Marks in my 12th, the last cut-off was 80% when I was applying in for the first year. Luckily I got the admissions in the second year. I always aspired to do something in the field of media. I wanted to be a writer, journalist and that was the reason behind joining this course, with Mithibai's name on my CV, it is easy to crack interviews. The course of BMM has a vast scope, a person who has done BMM can pull of anything minus all the things that include science formulas but they will know how to market the same. BMM helps you to widen your perspective and accept, analyze things with an open mind. The course has 36 subjects, 6 subjects per semester. Each subject is dedicated to a particular field in media for e.g. Journalism, PR, Media Research, Social Media, Marketing, Cinema studies, etc. The course demands a practical approach towards learning, each subject has practical projects/assignments wherein the students will learn the true essence of the subject. The course will most likely get you a job provided that you have to figure out what is best for you, and what career option will suit you with the skill set you have.

Professors were the best part of the course apart from the activities as well as projects. BMM had 3 permanent faculty and many visiting faculties as per the demand of the subject. The visiting faculties often were industry experts giving us a sneak peek into the real world out there. There were a total of approx. 12 teachers for the self-financed courses and many visiting faculties as per need of the subject. Many times departments used to invite industry experts for seminars, workshops, activities. Most of the teachers had already worked in the respected industries and are teaching which helps in an overall education for a student. Many teachers were Ph.D. holders.

The training & placement cell of the college was stupendous in their jobs. They give us proper training as to how to behave in an interview, what kind of clothes should one wear, how to prepare a resume, what kind of questions might be asked, how to answer questions, even they use to pay attention to the perfumes we wear. The cell used to bring great opportunities from giant companies such as Zee, Star India, IIFL, etc. Since most of us were already working or were interested in further studies. But in our previous batch students got hired by Star India and Zee Essel.

The college does not have an in-house hostel, but since the college is situated at such a location which can be considered as the safest place in Mumbai. There are many affordable hostels for boys as well as girls.

There are many PG facilities nearby, students can rent their own flats as well.

The college has the best infrastructure one could wish for. There is even a parking lot just beside the college for vehicles. The college is a 12 story building with approx 12 lifts which is very helpful for the student to reach their classes on time. There are various sections in the building. It is too spacious for one to conduct an in-house activity. There are ACs in each classroom and a projector facility with speakers. The surrounding is clean with much house keeping staff always taking care of the cleanliness of the premises. The college has many halls and each hall has a capacity of 200-250 people in order to conduct an activity or seminar. When it comes to food, the college has 3 canteens including the bakery at the entrance of the building. One is on the 8th floor, while the other canteen is on the ground floor. The food is quite cheap, nice to taste, and will fill your stomach as well. The college has a medical aid room just beside the science lab, all the staff room has self-care and emergency medical kits. I remember I was riding my scooter and a km before the college I met with an accident, nothing major just my hands and knees got bruised. I went to the college, the medical help staff saw me and immediately provided aid to my injuries after which fell better and I continued my lecture.

The campus life is pretty fabulous, I still miss mine. There are activities happening every day and one develops through these activities. The college has many fests and the main fest was Kshitij, followed by departmental fests, such as Paparazzi, Colosseum, etc. The fests help in the 360-degree growth of students. It gives an identity to the student and helps him develop confidence, nurtures certain skills, discovers what s/he good at. Over all an amazing experience!
