Christ University M.Sc Review By Anwesha Das

To be honest, I fell in love with Bangalore city and that was the reason I stayed back after my graduation as I wanted to spend some more time in Bangalore. MCC was great but even in Kolkata, I was in girls’ school and the college again the same, I decided to explore the fun that a co-ed college can have. Christ is one of the most famous colleges across the country and I got the admission based on my aggregate of B.Sc. After coming from MCC College Bangalore, the first couple of months were tough but soon fell in love with the University. The University is one of the greatest and helps you get placed in multinationals. The good thing about the University is that it’s not much strict at Christ and I used my time to finally have some fun as well. The one area where college is strict is dress code. There’s no compromise with that. The college is lenient when it comes to boy-girl relations. One last thing, wearing the I-card while at the campus is more than compulsory as I have seen students being thrown out of the college because of that.

After having 90+ attendance in my UG, I was not prepared for the same. Thank God, I chose Christ as they are quite lenient in this department and even during the class timing, you will find student attending some meetings which are not even relevant to them or enjoying some of the most delicious food that you can find in college campus. For no reasons I believe they have divided M.Sc in semesters. This just took the cat out of our bag as we never had more than a month’s leave while I enjoyed 2-2.5 months break during my UG.

Unlike MCC, the faculty members are more experienced but may be not as skilled. All are PhD holders and the teaching methods were quite unique. Unique as in as they would let students ask them the question and then they used to answer those questions. The method looked strange at first but soon realised that it was an easier way for students to make grasp. The faculty members mostly were occupied and to approach them was an uphill task. Hence, classes are the only time when you can clear your doubts.

I think my decision to stay back paid off the day I was offered an offer letter from Wipro. Thank God I chose M.Sc (IT) as the placement was 100% in our department. All the big IT names were available at the campus and it was just a matter of few minutes as the recruiters were already impressed by us. Our CV along with our detailed marks is already sent to the companies and accordingly we got a call. The average placement was in the range of Rs. 4-5 LPA CTC. A little less if you compare that with engineering students but were good since we were still the fresher. The placement at Christ University can’t be questioned.

The girls' hostel area was known by the name Jonas Hall Hostel. There were 3 blocks and I was in block B as the PG students were assigned rooms in that hostel. The rooms we were given only had rooms on twin sharing as I anyways didn’t wanted to get accommodated in 3 or 4 sharing rooms. I may have said that the college is not strict but it was exactly the opposite with the hostel. Christ University hostel has a mess that is not inside the hostel building. The dinner timing was 8 to 9 as in the dinner will open at 8 and close at 9. By 9.15, we have to be at the hostel anyhow. This I felt was just too much because at least 2 hours should be given. I mostly had my meals at the various canteens that are there at the campus. Apart from this though there’s no complain whatsoever about the hostel.

The security system at Christ should be taken as an inspiration. The security is water tight. The garden of the campus which are 2 actually and both of them have a decent seating capacity. The sports ground was always occupied and they were some grounds, if you don’t mind. Excuse me if I complain but the canteens were more or less the food courts as you can get almost anything that you crave for in those canteens. Apart from the library the college has dedicated an entire building that is known as knowledge center. Medical facility is readily available at the campus. In terms of Infra Christ may not be the best in Bangalore but is no less for sure.

The college deals student with horrible attitude as in they don’t care. One can count that as a blessing as well but coming from MCC, it was beyond me. Studying here was enjoyable experiences as the teacher were informative and had a unique style. The events were like an everyday thing at Christ University Campus and you will see students gathering and meeting at some or the other buildings. If one wants to know what college life is, they should consider Christ as an option. Yes, the uniform and the strictness related to it can be frustrating but other than that there’s nothing that can have a negative impact.
