After a horrible experience in my UG, I thought of giving up engineering but then one of my friends told me about IIITB. He even told me that it is better than NIT’s. Well for me it would be like comparing Apples with Bananas. I took my time and finally cleared the entrance and got admitted here. I had some jitters initially but then college had a warm staff and students that once you get involved you will feel home over there. The college thus far hasn’t gained reputation or exposure that many colleges that are not even worth it has. I would like to promote IIITB as it is one of the best things that ever happened to me. The college has an integrated and some post graduate courses. The college doesn’t have any UG course and that is why it hasn’t picked the steam that it should by now. The college has some of the best clubs and the turnout in one of those clubs called Zense was amazing. I was an integral part of it and I wish they had life memberships, I would have still been associated with it then.

Labs are where we spent more time than the classes because most of our studies happened there. The companies have asked the college to prepare students so that they are ready once they join their respective companies. We had to choose what we like from our subjects and from 3rd semester onwards subjects were reduced from 9 to 5. I like it that way as books alone can’t guarantee you a job but practical knowledge of the same can. It was breathtaking the way college conducted academic sessions.

Few things don’t need promotions and faculties of IIITB certainly were one of those. They were calm, collective and cool just like our former captain MSD. Here I am comparing Apples with Oranges because if MSD was good at his skills, then faculties of IIITB were good with theirs. Realizing students’ potential and guiding them on what subjects to choose from was their main task. They did that brilliantly because getting all the students placed was their priority and also making sure that industry never lose faith in IIITB students we were made to grind much more than normally what other colleges do. Faculties did a great job and I will always be thankful to some of them.

Placements were awe-inspiring as we knew before the 2nd year started that we will be comfortably placed. When you have the security, you do thrive to learn more and more. Nearly 100 companies have tie-up with IIITB and students were made to appear for the interviews for the skills that was developed in us by the college. All the companies had their specific requirement as some of them even had their test for which many students appeared. For all those who passed that test were handed job even without much of a questioning. I was among such students and I was on the moon as I had my offer letter even before I had given my finals.

Girls’ hostel buildings were on C road of the campus and boys on the road adjacent to that. Even though the campus was small it had three crossings. Hostels were magnificent but it was only for the students who were outsiders. It would have been great to be a part of the hostel as hostel students had their own events and parties. I just checked the pics clicked by my friends and felt like I have missed out. For outsiders they have nothing to worry as both boys and girls hostel were simply the best.

Area is less comparatively but college is located in one of the most developed areas in Bangalore. We always felt like we are going to office as Electronic city has all the IT companies offices. Electronic city I guess should be named as magnet city because it has attracted all our college students as our entire batch is working in the same area where our college was. College’s infrastructure can be described by saying marvelous because from buildings to facilities it had everything that can be termed the best. Labs were up to date and even some of the machineries were imported from other countries. Not many colleges do that but luckily IIITB has handsome budget in their hands. Canteen was the next thing where we spent a nice chunk of our college life and dosas at the canteen were loved by our friends from North East and Gujarat as these two places students had literally captured the college with their presence.

It always used to be an eventful morning because the schedule was never planned. We were surprised on most days as people from corporate would come and meet us. Giving lectures on how their companies have grown in stature and how engineers have made it happen. These things gave us confidence and made us believe that we did the right decision of becoming engineers. Campus life was fun as we had many technical and non-technical events throughout the year.
