Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur provides an overall competitive environment for academics offering various undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The course curriculum maintains a balance between theory and practical applications helping the students to grasp the concepts at an industry level. The faculty members are highly experienced and are actively involved in research, teaching, and guiding students. I chose IIEST Shibpur because it has an excellent placement record across all the streams and is ideal if you want a quality education along with a good campus experience.

The institute offers a wide variety of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Admission to IIEST Shibpur is based on scores obtained from various entrance exams like JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) Mains, Gate, and CAT. Candidates have to meet the institute’s cutoff rank to get admission to this institute. The course structure is relevant according to the latest requirements at the industry level.

The faculty members are highly qualified and are actively involved in research and teaching. All of them are Ph.D holders from various reputed universities across different countries and some of them have received various prestigious awards and honors at the National level. The lectures are planned sequentially and in a highly interactive manner which builds up the interest in that concept. The faculties also mentor students and guide them in various competitive events held within the institute or externally.

There is a placement cell in the institute that is responsible for inviting various companies for on-campus placements. The placement record is excellent at IIEST Shibpur every year across all the streams for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Some of the top recruiters are Google, Microsoft, Texas Instruments, Wells Fargo, Deutsche Bank, PWC, and Accenture.

There are a total of 17 hostels which includes 9 multi-seated hostels for boys, 3 hostels for Girls, and 5 single-seated halls for boys. The hostels are good with caretakers. There will be 3 or 4 students in each room of the multi-seated hostel. The mess food is good and hygienic but the menu will vary from hostel to hostel. There is a common living room at each hostel building where students have the facility to play indoor games during their leisure times.

The main academic complex is a four-story building that accommodates most of the engineering departments and some official departments as well. There is also a Science and Technology building which consists of various labs, classrooms, and offices. The institute has a workshop complex that has nine engineering shops to offer training and a hospital that provides 24x7 health services. There are two main sports grounds-Lords and Oval and various other buildings for extra-curricular activities.

There are various clubs like Robodarshan (the robotics society), Debsoc (the debating club), CodeIIEST and many more. Every year, an institute fest is held called ‘Rebecca’ that goes on for four days. Other than this, there are various technical fests for each of the departments where students from other universities also participate. Overall the campus life is good.
