Overall Rating
My overall Institute experience till now has been good. I chose this Institute as it was the best option which I was getting at the time of JOSAA counseling and also the ECE department of this Institute was very good. I don't think that there is any big difference between this Institute and others. However they are very strict when it comes to ragging. There is a special team that makes sure that no first year student has to face ragging.
 

Academics Rating
I chose Electronics and Communication Engineering because I was interested in it in my 10+2. For anyone to take admission in this Institute, they have to qualify JEE Main with a certain score and rank which changes every year and then apply for the Institute and the interested branch in the JOSAA counseling. Exams are held 4 times in a single year along with some class tests and lab tests.
Fee of every semester is Rs. 82,800 for general candidates. There are few discounts for specific category students like Gen- EWS, SC, etc.
 

Faculty Rating
All the faculty members are highly qualified and have different teaching skills. Most of the professors teach in a very concept based approach. Most of them provide the course PPT’s and other necessary study materials. The teacher student ratio is quite satisfactory and mostly the teachers are always available. All the teachers of my department are friendly and promote active participation of students while teaching. They are always available to answer student's queries through mail and also through meeting in their cabins.
 

Placement Rating
There is a special placement cell in this Institute called the Training and Placement cell.
 

Hostel Rating
Yes, the Institute does offer residential facilities. There is a total of 14 hostels in this Institute. Girls and boys hostels are separate and no boys are allowed to enter the girl’s hostels. Mess food is sometimes average and sometimes not too good.
 

Infrastructure Rating
Campus size is pretty good (187 acres) with almost all the basic things of daily use available in the campus. All the classrooms in the New academic buildings are air conditioned and have a seating capacity of about 250 students. There is central library in the campus itself which has a lot of books and study rooms for students. There are 2 sports field, 1 basketball court and 1 tennis court with many other sports equipment available. The medical unit in the campus is quite satisfactory and functional 24x7.
 

Campus Rating
Overall campus life is good. There are many clubs that organize many events every year. These clubs take audition for selecting students. These auditions usually consist of 4-5 rounds (which may even change depending on the club which is taking audition). There are 2 annual fests which are organized every year. One is the technical fest, Aarohan and other is the cultural fest, Recstacy. Campus life is amazing as one gets to meet people from different parts of India and make friends who are always there to help you.

    The institute is situated at Durgapur, West Bengal. It is the 7th-ranked NIT in India and has an NIRF ranking of 44th in the country, according to the 2024 report.     Experienced around 2 years in NIT Durgapur, it was mixture of everything. Starting from taking part in the fests and events and then being a part of the organising committee and I felt extremely grateful.
