NIT Durgapur is a Institute that provides top class education to students. It is ranked 44th in the Engineering Category as per NIRF 2024. This Institute has helped me grow both academically as well as personally. It provides top of the class placements to the students. It offers a perfect mix of academics, research and good campus life. The key reasons for choosing this Institute are top class education facilities, library facilities, active clubs, which organize various events like 2nd largest Techno-Management Fest in Eastern India. Overall this Institute instills leadership, responsibility and a lifelong passion for learning.

I am currently enrolled in B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering at this Institute. One can get into the Institute by clearing JEE Main examination. The admission process is controlled by JoSAA administration. For getting CSE, EE and ECE one has to score exceptionally well. In academics, there are typically 4-5 theory subjects and 2-3 labs (can vary as per departments). Exams are held two times per semester, one is the mid-semester exam and then there is end-semester exam with subjects having their own Class Assessments (CA). The curriculum is basically theory subjects and labs for the hands-on experience. It totally aligns with the placement criteria in today's competitive world.

At this Institute the total fees of my course is around Rs. 85,000/- per semester for General / OBC category students. This includes Tuition fees, One-Time Fees, Caution Money, Library Fees, etc. Apart from this Hostel charges are free but for mess facilities around Rs. 20,000/- per semester are to be paid. Students from SC / ST categories don't have to pay tuition fees; they only have to pay the registration and Mess fees. Students can avail various scholarships and for that you have to talk to the Scholarship Cell of the Institute. There are Tuition Fee Waivers for students from Economically Backward Classes. Students can also apply for Student Loans at a very minimal interest rate.

The faculty of my department is well known for their knowledge and contribution to the field. All the professors hold PhDs from reputed Institutes like IITs, IISc and foreign universities. They bring together their learning’s as well as years of experience with them. Classes are conducted in a mix of blackboard and PPTs. The faculty always engages with the students in discussions during the class to ensure even participation of all students. Faculty focuses on concept clarity and doubt clearing for better understanding of the subjects. The teacher to student ratio is very good. Faculty members have the offices with the department or the Main Academic Building so connecting to them outside of class is very easy.

The Institute has a Training and Placement Cell (T&P Cell) that assists students in securing placements and internships. T&P cell organizes pre-placement talks, resume building sessions, mock interviews to prepare students for the industry. Alumni sessions are also organised for enhancing the placement scenario in the Institute. Top companies like Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, Qualcomm, Nvidia, BNY Mellon, Texas Instruments, PwC, etc visits our campus for placements. This year Apple also hired students through campus placements. The average package for B.Tech CSE is around 12 LPA to 14 LPA. The highest package touched 51 LPA offered by Microsoft.

This Institute offers hostel facilities for both boys and girls. The Institute has 11 boys’ hostels and 3 girls' hostels. All the hostels are located in the campus. Each hostel has well-furnished rooms with beds, lights, drinking water facilities, toilet facilities, common rooms, indoor spaces for games like Badminton, Volleyball and Wi-Fi facilities. There is Inter-Hall sports tournaments, Technical and Cultural Fests. Both Boys' and Girls' hostels are separate spaces with secure boundaries and supervision. The mess food is good and serves students three times daily 1) Breakfast 2) Lunch 3) Dinner. Both North-Indian and South-Indian dishes are made here. Hostel fees are around Rs. 18,000/- to Rs. 20,000/- per semester. There are Hostel Wardens, Caretakers, and Cleaners assigned to each hostel whose job is to maintain proper functioning, cleanliness of the hostels. The hostels are changed every year, In first year most of the students are assigned to Hall 11 (for boys) and Hall 10 (for girls). Then 2nd year students generally reside in Hall 14 (for boys) and Hall 13 (for girls), Then 3rd year students are allotted with Hall 2 & Hall 9 (For boys) and Hall 13 (for girls).

NIT Durgapur has a campus size of 187 acres with well planned academic blocks, separate departmental buildings, hostels, faculty areas, playgrounds, temples, bank facilities, library and food centres. Classes are usually taken in Main Academic Building (MAB) and New Academic Building (NAB) and labs are held in the respective departments. Classrooms are spacious and well equipped with projectors, microphones, speakers. The library is open 24x7 during exams. Labs are well equipped with Wi-Fi facilities, in CSE department with high performance systems. The campus also has an Auditorium, seminar halls, canteens, Medical Center for strong security and transport facilities.

Campus life at this Institute is diverse and full of opportunities. The students are talented and they come from all over India creating a rich cultural mix. The Institute has a wide variety of clubs technical, cultural, literary, dance and music clubs. The technical clubs organize Technical Fest ‘AAROHAN’ and Cultural clubs organize ‘Recstacy’, cultural fest. Both the fests feature events, concerts and celebrity nights. The campus has its own temples so big pujas like Durga Puja and Shivratri are a major attraction here. Apart from that Holi is a big festival here. Saraswati Puja is organized in all hostels. Overall campus life is exciting and well balanced, helping me grow socially, creatively and professionally alongside academics.
