College Life of Nit Durgapur: Excellent Academics & Top-Notch Events

Overall Rating
The institute is situated at Durgapur, West Bengal. It is the 7th-ranked NIT in India and has an NIRF ranking of 44th in the country, according to the 2024 report. According to me, the Institute placement, infrastructure, and faculty are very nice. In addition, I will surely suggest this Institute to my future juniors. The difference that makes this institute different from other institutions is the faculty, infrastructure, coding culture, and placements. According to me, one must take admission here.
 

Academics Rating
Currently, I am pursuing a B.Tech in Electrical Engineering, and I am a 4th-year student. From my childhood, I was passionate about electrical things, so this motivation helped me to join this institution. To get admission in the Institute, you must give the JEE Main entrance exam, in which you can only give the exam when you have PCM or PCMB in class 12 and have scored more than 70% in the board exam. In every semester, there is a mid-term of 25 marks and an end term of 60 marks and 15 marks are in the hands of the professor. They give this 15 marks by taking a class assessment or an oral.
The fee structure is Rs. 78,000 per semester for students who have a family income of more than 5 LPA. For students with a family income less than 1 LPA, or ST/SC candidates, 100% tuition fee waiver, and the fee comes to Rs. 16,300 per semester. Candidates with a family income of 1 LPA to 5 LPA. 2/3rd of fee get waived. In addition, per semester, you have to pay Rs. 16,000 to Rs. 20,000 for food. In addition, here you get a scholarship from State, Central, and Independent bodies.
 

Faculty Rating
Here, the faculty is very nice and highly qualified, and they have a minimum qualification of Ph.D from NITs, IITs, or Jadavpur University. They use PPT, blackboards for teaching in the classroom. The problem-solving abilities of the faculty are very good, they are very humble, and they help us with even small things. Here, the teacher-to-student ratio is around 1:16, which is considered good. In addition, even if you want moral or personal support, they help you in the best way possible. I have a good bond with them.
 

Placement Rating
The placement is very good at NIT Durgapur, and for handling placement. There is a Training and Placement cell. For handling it, there is a Training and Placement officer who invites companies to our Institute. In the Software field, companies like Microsoft, Google, JPMC, Texas Instruments, Wipro, Infosys, TCS, etc., come to our Institute. In addition, for core companies like PSUs, Texas instruments, JSW, JSL, RIL etc., come to our Institute The highest on campus package is 51 LPA and the average is 13 LPA.
 

Hostel Rating
The hostel life is full of fun in NIT Durgapur and our Institute offers us residential facilities. For every year student there is a separate hostel and in every year, there is a room allocated for 3 students. There is a separate hostel for girls and boys. The food in the hostel is quite hygienic, the quality is also good, and if you are a non-veg lover, then it is the place for you. Annually, the hostel fee is around is about Rs. 12,000. According to me, the hostel is a good place to stay.
 

Infrastructure Rating
There are 2 blocks where classes take place Main Academic building and the New Academic building. The Institute is located on 187-acre lush green campus. All the classes in the Institute have a projector and an air conditioner. Academic facilities like the library, labs, seminar hall, auditorium, conference hall, two grounds, and research building are there. There is a student activity center and gym, a canteen, medical unit. Security guards are at the main gate of the Institute. The greenery inside the campus attracted me a lot and the faculty inspires us to keep the campus in good condition.
 

Campus Rating
The campus life is very good as there are many things to do on campus. Here, there are 23 clubs like GLUG, Recursion, Dance CLUB, Music Club, SAE, IEEE, MNTC, and much more clubs which organize various fests like Summit, organized by EDC, Aarohan (Eastern India's Largest Tech fest), Resctacy (Cultural Fest) and much more events take place. As I am not in any of the clubs, I love to play cricket in my spare time. There is a lot of scope in the research field, and M.Tech and PhD in our Institute and the faculties will also encourage you.

    My overall Institute experience till now has been good. I chose this Institute as it was the best option which I was getting at the time of JOSAA counseling and also the ECE department of this Institute was very good. I don't think that there is any big difference between this Institute and others. However they are very strict when it comes to ragging.     Experienced around 2 years in NIT Durgapur, it was mixture of everything. Starting from taking part in the fests and events and then being a part of the organising committee and I felt extremely grateful.     NIT DGP is a pretty old Institution with about 60 years of history. Overall, this has potential but roughly it offers a similar experience to those of older NITs, and things are laggard typical of government Institutions in general, particularly in West Bengal.
